I am trying to decide between a Samsung 37" and Sony Bravia M series 37". The only major difference is that the Samsung has a 5000:1 contrast ratio comapred to the Sony's 1500:1. However I've read that Samsung tests the TV's differently to come up with that number. Any help would be appreciated.

You are correct. Samsung always quotes "dynamic contrast".
A 5,000:1 dynamic contrast is about 1,000:1 true contrast, so this Sony is actually better. However, numbers are only part of the whole picture. If you can, try to watch them in person and see which one you like the best.

C if the 2 tv respond time same or not. if no, choose the respond time below 8ms. I think 1500:1 for a 37" tv is too little. The samsung's colour will be more bright-coloured.

Well....I SUGGEST using your own eyes in a side by side comparison.....

Go to the store, ask them to set up the DISCOVERY HD THEATER channel on BOTH sets.....

THAT is the DeFacto STANDARD channel that I use for comparisons...

Now watch them....For about half an hour at least.
NOW you have made a GOOD DECISION by seeing it with your own eyes....

But if you don't have the time then Fall Back on SONY.
You don't see Samsung TVs in a production studio...only Sony.

Peyton Manning is correct about that point, and I used to deal with Production Studio Equipment....MOST of it was SONY, the rest was Panasonic....NONE was Samsung....
