tricia r - as far as I know, I've never tried to get you to believe anything about God. And that is not my purpose here. I'm simply seeking your opinion.

lb centaur -- If you have ever read any of my answers, I do not quote scripture to unbelievers to prove God exists. I don't try to prove God exists, as I recognize that proving God exists is as impossible as proving God does not exist.
Also, I am not an evangelist, etc, etc., as to your other points..

mainjd: I know that I can't prove God exists. I am just asking atheists what proof would suffice for them. I agree with them -- God is going to have to do something to prove God's existence to them.

First answer me...what is proof? There are still people who believe that the moon landing and even the holocaust were faked. If someone is determined to believe a certain way, then no amount of "proof" will sway them. For those of you who believe in God, isn't peace part of what God is all about? I never heard of an atheist starting a war to prove that God does not exist, but how many wars have been fought because people thought that others should worship God the same way they do? I personally do believe that God exists, and no amount of evidence by an atheist will change that. By the same token, I know that no amount of arguing or "proof" will convince an atheist that God does exist, and you know what...I'm ok with that.

A miracle that defies the laws of physics, at an announced time... and repeated at another time, and independently verified.
I'd settle for...Stopping of gravity for a moment. Growing a limb on an amputee. Spontaneous reconstuction of an object stipped to the atomic level. Creation of a new star from nothing.

People ask what would convince me that god truly exists. While I am not sure, I am certainly open to any tangible evidence. I do not know what evidence would convince me because I believe it is impossible to prove the existence of god. What evidence would convince you that god does not exist? See the conumdrum: it is difficult to answer their question! See falsifiability (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsifiability ) and Rules of Evidence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_of_evidence ) for more information.
Do not quote bible passages as evidence of god's existence. This is my standard of proof, not yours. However, if proof were proffered that convinced me god exists, I would change absolutely nothing in my life or my behavior. The existence or not of god does not matter. Like many humans I live a purposeful life and god does not add more purpose.
What if evidence were produced that convinced you god does not exist with certainty (evidence according to your standards of proof)? What would you change in your life?
- Would you stop evangelizing?
- Would you start sinning more?
- Would you stop helping those less fortunate than you?
- Would you feel that life is meaningless?

Appear as an old man in broad daylight while I'm in the middle of a crowd and give me 2 extra fingers on one hand with a snap of his fingers, while saying "I am God" in a condecending sort of way. At least 5 verifiably sane and known to me people must be present. It's a bonus if they're also atheists.

If there's is a god then he knows doesn't he? If there isn't then it doesn't matter.
Personally I can't think of what would prove the existence of a being that can supposedly create an entire universe except perhaps demonstrating that they can create a universe.
Everything I've ever heard anyone give for what would convince them has always sounded much too minor. Even the supposed miracles in the bible seem childishly simplistic.

As a christian, I would think that athiests would either say "Show himself" or "show me signs". God shows everything! They are just to shallow to notice it. How was the world create? Science doesn't know. They only believe that it was nothing then just SUDDENLY appeared. The universe are Gods footsteps. Oh! Also, God will show himself. Very soon. Jesus is coming again, and athiests would praise him or ask the rocks to fall on them so they wont have to see him. God shows so much proof. I remember praying in his son's name, and it would happen (note he only answers if you haven't sinned lately without it being forgiven). Remember in Egypt, when they asked for signs, God gave them signs and they praised him, and then stopped believing, and then asked, and the cycle continued, until God stopped it!

*sighs* Why do I have to keep repeating this over and over?
Look, if your god first showed himself to me, then he brought my mother back from the dead in perfect health with the exact personality she had before she got sick (no "spiritual enlightenment" bull), after she's been ashes since 2003 spread over a large area of land... I MIGHT think about it.
Problem is that a sufficiently advanced alien race would be able to do pretty much anything that you people claim that a god can do so its going to take some REAL major effort on your gods part.
I am nothings slave and I worship nothing.

Proof of a Yahweh would serve NO purpose at all. It does not exist, further, if it has done nothing or is not there for those who believe - how exactly could it possibly do something for me?
You keep chasing your tails, you never stop. You want us to chase our tails too. Your views and arguments have no basis, no proofs, nothing that substantiates anything - all the falsehoods that you claim are a waste of time to a thinking mind. Sorry - it's your question, not mine.

Which God? Which God would have to do what? If Zeus is real then he needs to cause a lightining storm right now...If Ra is real then he could make the sun come up right now at 11:47 pm...If the Flying Spaghetti Monster is real then I could use a plate of Lasagna right about now...You should be more specific as to which god you mean.

Pick one of the major miracles from the Bible for starters. I'd like to see a talking donkey on national TV independently verified by scientists.
Or parting the Red Sea.
Or a talking burning bush.
Or resurrecting people.
A mountain top transfiguration.
A plague - how about turning a major US river into blood?
...so many to choose from.
