I ask because I got this in an email:
Your career starts at the Reception Station for in-processing. In-processing is divided up into a four day process, where new soldiers have the records for their military careers created.
Day One: The Reception Station consists of getting your first military haircut, immunizations, and military clothing issue.
Day Two: You will receive an advance of your first paycheck (Males and Females receive $250.00), a Dental Exam, Eye Exam, Hearing Test, and General Topic Briefings.
Day Three: Consists of career counseling, identification (ID) card and ID tag issue.
Day Four: You will be given a Physical Fitness Assessment Test, and you begin Basic Training.

Will it hurt me if I don't score quite as well on the next one, since it is my first one in OSUT?

Yes. You will also take at least four PT test during the basic training portion of OSUT, and at least one in the AIT portion.

Get used to it. In 2006, I took five record PT tests.

The "physical assesment" you take in reception is not an actual APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) it is just a rough assesment to make sure no-one is being let into basic that is far below the standards.
You will be required to do 13 push-ups, 17 sit-ups, and run 1 mile in under 8:00.
It is really quite pathetically easy. Dont stress it.
Enjoy your time at beautifull Ft Benning or Ft Sill, depending on which OSUT you are attending. Hopefully Sill, Home of the Field Artillery. KING OF BATTLE!!!!

Get used to it. What you did with your recruiter does not matter once you get to training. You will take a PT test at reception (the most boring week of your life), then you can be expected to take 3 more during your BCT schedule. Good luck, its cold out there at this time of year ;)
Oh and your score on that PT test really doesnt make that much of a difference, provided you pass. Due to the stresses that you are about to go through (very little sleep, lots of really long boring days sitting in halls listening to officers and trying not to fall asleep, and a lot more 'exercise' than you are used to), dont expect the best performance of your life on your first PT test. Just expect to do the very best you can all the way through.

You will be evaulated on you Physical Fitness through out your military career. Basic and AIT (Advance Individual Training), which in your case is combined into OSUT (one station unit training), you will recieve a "test" once a week, this "test" maybe just upper body (push-ups) and a run, or situps and a run, or just a run, or a combination of them all. Look, Private, humping your weapon, personal protection equipment, water, MRE, squad radio, and whatever else you need to accomplish your mission, will require that you be physically fit. Good Luck.

No this will not hurt you. The Army understands that everyone is new and do not understand the importance of physical training. Your initial assessment at reception doesnt mean a thing but that you have the drive to continue in basic training. If someone can pass the initial assessment, they will stay at reception until they do.
