Ok so I currently have a job working at a Motel at the front desk part time.I had recently applied for another job which was a lot better paying with full time as well as benefits. My husband really wants to see me work somewhere that I will have more hours and better money.I applied about 4 days ago and they said they couldn't get back with me until next week because for this line of work I needed a background check and when that comes back they could talk to me about employment.they told me to go ahead and put my notice in but i didn't because I wanted to make sure I had the job first.Well they called me today and want me to start tomarrow for the training class. But I work at the job I have now tomarrow.I can't put off the class cuz its mandatory to take.If I don't take it they can't hire me.My hubby told me just to up and quit this one but I don't like to burn any bridges. What would you do in this situation.Quit or stay and posibally lose the chance of a great oppertunity?

see my problem is that i did tell my boss but he wants me to stay atleast until the 15th of this month because we are short handed.if i don't go to this class for training i will lose my chance all together and they will hire somebody else who can come at the drop of a dime. Its working in a correctional facility as a corrections technition.sounds scary but i am going to be going to school to study criminal justice and this would just a great opertunity to get into that feild of work. not to mention the pay and benefits! i just feel guilty because i told my boss that i would stick it out as long as i could.but that class is tomarrow and i spoke with my other job about it and i cant reschedule its either tomarrow or they will have to find somebody else. but they really want me.my husband works there too.i only have an hour to decide because id have to leave my keys and uniform here.and never come back.i don't like to leave like that. :(

If you want the job, you have to take the training class. Many states are 'employment at will' and if the motel needed to get rid of you with out notice, they could do so - so while it would be better if you could provide notice, it is not absolutely necessarily. As long as you leave on good terms with the management and your work performance was good, there should be no problem.

gee that's a tough one, could you maybe call in sick or somehting for a coupleof days and give like a 10 day notice.

Or you could just up and quit IF YOU BELIVE that financially this other job will be substantially better than the present offer.

you may have to be up front with them, say like"well i can work for another week but you'll have to change my hours, or if you hat e yoru current job then i'd just be like sorry hate to do this but i have to quit. Many of us have been in this stiuation and sometime s the decision you make will be the one that you'll have to live with,

Keep in mind though. "what's the worst that could really happen

EDIT- since you've addded this information, yes, just quit for 5 bucks more an hour, that one is easy to answer.

You have to look out for number 1 (that's you). Apologize to the motel and quit, but you can still offer what time you have left to help the motel for the next week or so. Just tell the motel the truth and offer what you can, I suggest you follow the bigger paycheck, listen to your hubby!

You have to look out for your family and yourself. I would tell you job that you are putting in your 2 weeks notice, however your goign to need to change your hours so this way you can take the classes needed for your new job. Most companies are ok with things like this. Sometimes if you exsplaint o them why your leaven you get a nice raise (if they can afford it) or more hours (if they have space). But in your case I would take the new job. I'm sure they will understand. I went through the same thing. I was workign a job that didn't give me enough hours and the pay sucked. It was making me and my husband fight becuase i wasn't making enough some months to pay my part of the bills. So i went and found another job with great hours and much better pay. NOw we both have great incomes and we don't seem to fight over the bills anymore. It awsome. I know you will make the right choice, you seem like a smart lady!
