You're asking the wrong question.
Sin is an indicator of our faithfulness to God, nothing more.
If someone isn't born into the family of Yahshua (Jesus), all they can do is sin. Everything they do is sin.
Once born into the family of the King of kings and Lord of lords, we are commanded to "die daily" to our sins and live to him. Those who are born from above and go out and live as if they never were are wasting God's investment of His Holy Spirit in them.
We all sin daily. God forgives the sin of those who turn from their sin, but doesn't forgive habitual sin (repent means to turn and go in the other direction).
I'd bet a guy cheating on his wife isn't born into the family of the Son of God.
Anyone who has repented and committed themselves to walking the straight and narrow path that leads to a heavenly reward won't be careening down the broad road that leads to hell fleshing out with some bimbo.

In the bible book of Revelation last chapter it says adulterers, liars, fornicators, those who love violence or what is loathsome, the impure, etc can not enter the kingdom of God. But The Lord's mercy provides a purgatory state of purification time for those not ready or worthy of heaven but who dont deserve hell either. Its where the mud of earthly loves and affections for sin get washed away from the eyes and heart blocking the clear seeing of God's infinite love and holiness. The reason people dont see or perceive God now is their hearts are full of self and other loves that are not God. But no one can mock God's mercy either. If they live in contempt for or rejection of God's will and commandments their disposition doesn't suddenly convert in the shock time of a sudden accident and they die in the state of their prochoice without God. But God is merciful to sins only due to weakness not malice for his gifts and love. The Virgin Mary said, where she appears daily in Bosnia since 1981www.medjugorje.org Those who pray go to heaven. Those who do not pray do not. Jesus is coming sooner than you think. Soon it will be too late to convert.

I agree with Peace2all, we are sinners and are fogiven if we repent. God is judge. When we accept Christ into our hearts we do not become perfect, we try to do as He did while on earth. If we truly want to but fail it does not mean we go to hell or do not have eternal life.
Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Everyone is under sin. It doesn't matter if you're sinning while you die or not. Now, if the man cheating was having one slip up and was a Christian, I believe, he would probably go to Heaven. If the affair had been going on for years, I really doubt the man was a Christian in the first place.

Repentance is a requirement, so if they died in their sin, then they would go to hell. God cannot allow sin to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Adultery is a sin. Plain and simple. That's why we have to live our lives for God as if we don't have another moment. Because your next breath may be your last. God Bless
Edit: You cannot be forgiven if you don't repent and ask for forgiveness, and if you die before you get a chance to ask (and it has to be sincere, because God knows your heart), then you are hellbound.

Thankfully, I am not the judge, and could not tell you what God knows. If we die in a state of sin, it is the sin of not knowing God. Acts of sin are different from that state of sin. This doesn't give us free rein to act sinfully while we have a good relationship with God, because it can't be done. God would know what is in a person's heart, even if he was making a huge mistake at the time of death. Otherwise, very few of us would have any hope.

Repentance
[4:17] Repentance is acceptable by GOD from those who fall in sin out of ignorance, then repent immediately thereafter. GOD redeems them. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.
[4:18] Not acceptable is the repentance of those who commit sins until death comes to them, then say, "Now I repent." Nor is it acceptable from those who die as disbelievers. For these, we have prepared a painful retribution.
The Unforgivable Sin
[4:48] GOD does not forgive idolatry, but He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. Anyone who sets up idols beside GOD, has forged a horrendous offense.

A saved person will probably not be cheating on his wife...and if he is and he is truly saved, it will be forgiven. The same as for the person who is his mistress! I believe that is really all up to God to decide!
To be saved you repent and trust in Christ...you don't become perfect!

"Sin" is an archery term, meaning "to miss the mark". You're just straying a little. No biggie. But the goal is to stay on track. And, by the way, everyone has their own track, and you get to create it for yourself, moment by moment.
When your body dies, you're going to wind up somewhere. But it's not "here or there". It's not "heaven or hell". It's a continuum. It goes gradually from hell up to heaven. And the great thing is, you get to move around! Some people give their seniority up to other beings, but you really get to choose for yourself, and god blesses and celebrates every decision you make for yourself. That's how the universe thrives. :-)
