Im 18 and have no credit but want to build it for future use (i.e cars, house ect.). My father passed away when i was 16 and my mom has never been around so i dont have a co-signer. Also im very responsible for my age and i know all the risk's and factors of getting a credit card. And if at all possible i would like 2 avoid secured credit cards. Help in choosing the right credit card for me would be greats Thnx!

My mom always told me to apply for credit at a jewelery store. Purchase something, then make the monthly payments to show a history. Once you do this then try other credit cards. You may not find a small apr when you start out, but if you make your payments on time you should get better offers in the future.

After the jewelry card, I got a Radio shack and Target card. Both apr's were kinda high, but now I mainly use a card I got from MBNA (now Bank of America) that stays at 7.9%.

Well if you can stay away from credit cards. Get one for emergency use only. And pay it off right away. (no interest that way) And it only shows up as paid as agreed.
Now to build your credit up after you get that emegency credit card and use it once and pay it off right after you get the bill. Go down and buy a car. Pay it on time for the first year. Then pay off the car. Your credit will be A+

Starting with a store credit card is usually a good idea to build history -- just be sure to pay it off promptly.

As far as real credit cards, Chase Freedom has some good rewards, however, the rate is not that great -- not a problem if you plan to pay it off in full.

If you are trying to build credit you will have to get one of those crappy credit cards at first because most of the time they are the only ones that will take the risk. but once you have stablish credit you could get a better one and drop the first one, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com here you will be able to compare all major credit cards side by side.
