First communion is not about the gifts, communion is when you are able to eat the body and blood of Christ. it doesn't even matter if the bread is hard, the church might have ordered the wrong kind. People share from the same cup because in the religious life we are all brothers and sisters, and also because there is one body and blood of Christ which means one cup. In the church no one is supposed to care if it is germy.

Your first holy communion is a sacrament and a gift. You shouldn't be expecting gifts as a reward for this event and right of passage. When my 7 yr old makes her First Communion in April, we'll celebrate the event, but we WILL NOT be encouraging her to be all grabby and selfish over gifts. She is excited and eager simply because she'll get to participate fully in masses and take the Holy Communion during mass. She's not even aware that some people might decide to offer her gifts.
As for the Communion wafer, what it's shape and consistency and taste is like depends on where your church happens to get it from. The churches in my area get the wafers from some nuns that make them. Ours are between the sizes of quarters up to fifty cent pieces. They're all dry and thin and less like crackers or bread, and more like... papery and stale cardboard, that melts on your tongue.
Not all churches share from the Chalice (the cup that holds the wine which becomes Christ's blood). It's not "germy" but a holy part of the service.

If you are receiving Holy Communion in a Catholic Church, then you are receiving Christ. You are receiving the Body and the Blood of Jesus Christ, who is God in human flesh. Stop concentrating on "germs" and the like. Start thinking more and Who you are truly receiving in Holy Communion, and then you will understand better. Focus on Jesus Christ Whom you are receiving, and the rest of the "questions" will go away. It is very important for us to remain focused on the essentials of what we are doing. Please, do not allow yourself to become sidetracked with non-issues such as how much money you will receive, or whether you will likely catch any germs. Focus on God and on His Kingdom, and the rest will be granted to you according to your needs.
I hope this helps. Sorry if it sounds like I am preaching. This was not my intention. I just wanted to help you to realize that we must always think about the most important aspects of what we are doing.
God Bless.

Sweet, man.
I'm sure your Vegas family will send you a check or something.
Not too sure about your questions about the communion itself though.
