The answer to this question depends on a number of factors only YOU can answer:

1) Which one fits your budget?
2) What will you be doing with the camera? Closeups? Long distance shots? etc...
3) Is this your first camera or a replacement camera? Are you going from film to digital?
4) There are other questions, which only you can pose and answer.

You may want to shop around at local small shops, not just the big shops like Future Shop. Some local shops may charge more for the product, but they can often give good advice.

You also might want to talk to someone in the photography department of a local high school, newspaper, collede, or university.

FINALLY: before you BUY, insist the you get to TRY. Ask the seller (whether a big box store or a small local shoppe) to let you try a working model of the camera both inside the store and outside. Also try it in an inside room like an office, which is not as well lit as a showroom.

This way you will get a feel for how it works under varying conditions, and what kind of photos result. Ask to view the photos on at least a 17" computer LCD monitor, using something like the Windows Fax and Picture viewer. You can't tell what a photo looks like in real life on the camera's 2.5 inch screen!

Take your time. If they don't want to let you try the camera out with a knowledgeable person there to assist, walk away. It's YOUR money.

Both are good cameras but they are totally different types. What are you mainly going to use it for?
