Be it to their members or to society. It can be physically, mentally, or emotionally dangerous... HOWEVER... I want you to back up your claim with a reason. No ranting, just dialogue.

"All of them" is not an answer. I understand how religion in general can be seen as harmful. I want everyone to list ONLY three religions with three reasons.

Thank You.

Yo Thumper: A troll answer his or her own questions. I've yet to do such.

PS: Do you have any oppinion of your own to share? We'd love to hear it.

Jura: Preaching intolerance would be speaking of BELIEVERS of certain faiths. It isn't "intolerant" to question the claims and the RESULTS of certain schools of thought.

PPS: You guys can get sect specific if you'd like.

The religion can also be a dead religion.

Edward J: Can I get some evidence? I don't buy your claim for even one second. How can 2% of the world kill more than some 75% of the world?

Jessica: Thanks for NOT answering the question. I don't care what you THINK is correct or not, I care what you CAN DEMONSTRATE as DANGEROUS.

Is that clear enough for you?

2007-12-30 16:16:35 · update #5

Jessica: Pardon me if I came off rudely. I respectfully disagree that religions cannot be dangerous. There are philosophies that are very dangerous, hedonism for one. There is also an objective way to critique the religions based upon how certain people (as you mentioned) interpret such philosophies. These interpretations are religions in themselves.

I look at results and the actions of the believers.

This leads me to Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Dharmic religions tend to be internal in nature and deal with better living through rejection of materialism. Abrahamic religions on the other hand, all require supplication and domination. They all claim that mankind is inherrantly evil and the future will be disastrous and will require God to intervene and destroy non belief.

Christians claim to be different, but then also claim that Jesus is coming back to kill all non believers and torture them for eternity. All three Abrahamic religions have been tremendously harmful to humans throughout history, and continue to kill more humans that the rest to this day.

properly confident yet pointing all of it at faith is making the fallacy of, we could say a you and a few acquaintances are out swimming interior the sea, and a extensive group of mutated loopy sharks with a style for human flesh start up circling you and eating you.... ok, now we could say you anticipate *one* of those sharks is the venture, yet you overlook concerning to the the remainder of them. Ideology, faith, is what's risky. extremely that be in faith, politics, way of existence, academia, technological information, people could have self assurance in something religiously. people can religiously keep on with an worker instruction manual. Skepticism shouldn't cease at faith, it fairly is the main appropriate difficulty with the skeptic circulate as we talk.... It stops at faith and does not bypass any further.

Atheism is the most dangerous of the religions. First, it claims not to be a religion when it really is (which makes it a lie from the outset). Second, its primary teachers (Harris, Dennett and Dawkins) argue that religion is the worst thing in the world inciting its followers to hate and demonize Christians. Finally, it seeks to destroy dialogue by ignoring thousands of years of intellectual achievement by religious people and arguing that only atheists are rational.

After that, radical Islam (not moderate Islam) comes in a close second. There is no third.

It's not religion that is dangerous, but the extreme radicals that can be found within them.

The religions that I don't understand and am least likely to subscribe to would be the ones that are furthest from Monotheism (the belief that there is only and can only be One God) would be:

1. atheism (granted it's not a religion, but it distances the soul from God in a dangerous fashion)
2. Pantheistic religions that believe "everything is a god"
3. Ta-Mri (and other Egyptian beliefs)

Again, I don't find these "dangerous" but rather "not quite the true path or answer." They feel alien and uncomfortable and untrue to me, but not dangerous.

EDIT: Wow, rude much? I did answer your question. Your question is flawed. RELIGIONS themselves are not dangerous. ANY religion has the potential to produce extremist radicals which is where the danger is actually from.

I'm only listing my number one reasons for each

1) Islam - Currently the most violent religion
2) Christianity - Just as violent but seems to be in a defense mode at this time
3) New Age/Science hybrid religions - these new religions are more cleverly designed to attract the more cleaver, more questioning population. But just as mystical so will still lead it's followers to ignorance.

This applies only for current time but for all time my 3 most dangerous would be 1) Christianity 2)Islam 3)Judaism

Throughout history it's Christianity and Islam out-competing each other but I definitely see the potential of new religions emerging such as Scientology.

Historically: christianism, no doubt. Even if they would become 100% innocent (which they most certainly are not), they still have 583 years headway.

At the moment : the fundamentalist section of the Muslims. The world is waiting for the strengthening and organising of the large majority of normal Muslims.

Coming up very sharply: Hindu fundamentalists who are doing their very best to bank on the peaceful image many people have of hinduism in the west.
