hi. i have delt with this for awhile and now i just can't take it. my living room is badly designed. and my parents had just rearranged everything and now it looks worse than it is.

i have tried time and time again to tell them my 2 cents but of course they dont listen.

any way i can help make my house look better ? heres a layout of what it looks like now.

there are some great shows on hgtv. why don't you try to get your parents to sit and watch some of these shows with you to get ideas. the 2 i can think of are Freestyle and Decorating Cents. on Freestyle all they do is re-arange what the people already have. on Decorating Cents they do a room re-do for under $500 but they always have a segment towards the end of the program where they just re-style a room. maybe if you get your parents to watch a couple of these shows with you then they will think they got the idea from t.v. instead of from you and they will be more receptive to your ideas. or you could wait for both your parents to leave the house. clean the room really good, and move the furniture around while you are cleaning. your parents will be proud of you that you cleaned the room good.

good luck.

It appears that you have too much furniture in the room from my point of view. Typically, I choose a primary focal point and position the largest piece facing it. Then, I introduce the next largest pieces. You have two focal points, the fireplace and the TV. And, I don't know how high the TV is off of the floor. So, you have positioned one sofa facing the fireplace and one facing the TV. Is it possible to remove one of the sofas? Maybe place it in a guest room? Then, you could add another chair flanking the TV with the one that you have. Another option would be to make a "L" shape with the two sofas if there is enough room where your chair is. But, it doesn't seem to be if your plan is correct.

If you want, you can email me the exact measurements of the pieces with the room measurements and I would be happy to make a floor plan for you. That is the best that I can offer.
