As a person who has walked that path, I recommend Ann Moura. She knows her history AND her witchcraft techniques.
Stay well away from Silver Ravenwolf too.

First, Wicca is not about spells, so you definitely do not need to be Wiccan to use a spellbook. Second, spellbooks are largely scams. They can be decent reference for someone who understands how magic actually works, but you can't just follow the recipes inside a spellbook and expect magic to happen. That's not how the universe works. Magic does not come in colors. Claiming you're doing "white magic" is basically putting yourself on a pedestal and saying "I work nice magic," as opposed to people working "black magic," which are saying "I'm working with what is taboo, offensive, and/or unallowed." Since definitions of what is acceptable and what isn't is totally subjective, I strongly urge people to stop using such terminology. Too many people think if they are working out of a book that says "white magic" on the cover that they suddenly don't have to be responsible for their actions because that term will guarantee everything works out.

I use spellbooks for guidelines, not the actual spells themselves. To me, using someone elses words creates a less effective spell, than creating my own wording.
I also take the time to research the items that will be used, such as herbs and incenses, since there are a multitude of herbs and scents out there, I can create my own, to make it more personalized.
To be quite frank, buying spellbooks is a waste of money, taking the time, and making the effort to create your own wording and blends of herbs and oils and incense, truely makes your energies more effective than reading what someone else has done.
If you keep a journal, or a B.O.S. (everything is initialized now..lol), YOUR creations are kept and can be passed on to those in your family who follow the path.

I have tried many, including the Solitary Witches Bible. Still l think that making my own using information from other books has been the best so far since I put all my confidence and focus on them. It seems to be stronger when you do it yourself! Although Silver has been put down and most say stay away, she does have some info to impart, but I think it is up to the individual to see what works or doesn't work for them.

The wiccans I know write their own spells. It takes time to learn enough to be able to do this but my friends would say that wicca is not a quick way to get what you want via spellcraft but is a way to spend your life learning about the world around you.
