As a Mormon, I am as perplexed as you. The antis are going to feed you a line of bull saying that "mormons don't worship the same Christ" (but how many were there?????) and that "mormons say this and mormons do that and blah blah blah..."

I think that the best way to figure out a religion...ANY religion is to go to that religion, read up on it and learn for yourself. If there are good points in it (and there is good in every religion) take from it and integrate it into your life.

As to your question, I dunno. I think people are afraid of what they don't understand or don't know about. Just so that YOU can know about us without being burdened with fear, here is the LDS church website. You can ask questions and have them answered.

EDIT: Our "different" Bible is the KJV.

I only know that sometimes that ignorant persons become frightened of concepts of something or someone that they do not understand. My best advice is to go to the source and get the correct answers.Mormons do not attack the person as soon as they open the door nor do they throw a collection jar into their face. If you have questions and truly want to know then ask. The missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints is listed in the telephone book. Call them. If you would rather not speak with them ask them for the literature that will explain the Church and the truth of the belief of the religion, the missionaries will see that you receive what you need to find your answers. You will learn the principles of the church. No you do not have to wear specific underwear. There are specific undergarment that are requested. They are somewhat like t-shirts and bottoms that are somewhat longer than Victoria Secrets. That is the freedom of choice. The Book of Mormon is free. We do read and believe in the Holy Bible, and there is other literature that is very interesting and important Feel free to investigate the church. You do not have to make any committments, just visit and enjoy the loving, caring people that will be honest and put up no fronts. They care and will be happy to see you.

I am LDS. To say that we (Mormons) believe in a different Jesus than they (Evangelical Christians) do is both right and wrong. Mormons believe in the Jesus of the New Testament.

Here's what we have in common with Evangelicals.
1. We believe that Jesus Christ is divine and is our God.
2. We believe that a man must accept Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior in order to be saved.
3. We believe that Jesus Christ is the God of the old testament (Jehovah) aka God of Israel, Jacob, Abraham, etc. 4. We believe that Jesus created the Heavens and the Earth. 5. We believe that Jesus is exactly as the New Testament says he is.
6. Both Evangelicals and Mormons believe that the Bible is not perfectly translated but that it does contain the word of God.

Here are our differences... and these are the reasons the Evangelicals say we're not Christian.
1. We reject the Nicene Creed that says that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are the same exact person. We believe that they are 3 separate and distinct persons and are one in purpose, but not substance. (See matthew 3:16,17 & 26:39; Luke 22:42; John 5:19; & 8:18; John 17:21 & 14:28 & 20:17; 1John 5:7; Acts 7:56)
2. Christians believe that Jesus(hence the Father) is a spirit and has not body of flesh and bones. (see John 4:24) But Mormons believe that Jesus is resurrected and has a body of flesh and bones. (see Luke 24:39; John 14:9) We also believe that God the Father has a perfected body of flesh and bones just as his son does.
3. Evangelicals believe that God does not speak to man today, but has sealed up his work and all we need to know is found in the Bible. Mormons believe that God continues to talk to man just as he did in the Bible through Prophets. (but so do Catholics through the Pope)
4. Evangelicals believe in only the Bible and nothing else. Mormons and Catholics believe in the Bible, but they also have other books of scripture that they use as well. (hence Evangelicls do not believe Catholics are Christian either).
5. Mormons believe that we are all literally children of God, his offspring (See acts 17:29) and therefore have the potential to become like him. (Romans 8:16,17; Galatians 4:7). Evangelicals believe that we are only his children figuratively, but not literally. We are only his creations, but not offspring.
6. Evangelicals believe that Jesus did not establish an organized church. Mormons and Catholics do believe that Jesus established an organized church with priesthood authority. Mormons believe that orgnization must have apostles and prophets. (See ephesians 2:20)
7. Mormons believe that Jesus is literally the Son of God, the first born of the Father. Evangelicals believe that Jesus is only figuratively the Son of God because Jesus and God are the same person. They do not believe that Jesus is the first born of the father because Jesus was never created by the Father of born of him. (see Colossians 1:15)

Those are the biggest differences that make us not Christian in the eyes of the Evangelicals. However, it is important to note that the Evangelicals believe they are the only true Christians. They also reject Catholics, Jehovahs Wittness's, Seventh Day Adventists, Church of Christ. They even reject their own if they as evangelicals happen to have joined the age old franternity of the Free and Accepted Masons.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. Because Mormons believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and consider Him to be the way to salvation, they are clearly a Christian denomination. It is true that they are not an orthodox denomination (they are neither Protestant, Catholic, nor Eastern Orthodox), because they don't accept the post-New Testament creeds, but their Christ-centered theology clearly qualifies them for the Christian label.

Most objective scholars agree that Mormons are Christian. Consider this quote from an academic book entitled “Anthology of World Scriptures” by Robert E. Van Voorst.

“…the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints…see themselves as Christian, and most experts in comparative religions would view this labeling as basically correct. That they…accept the Christian Bible as their first cannon is a good indicator of this. Moreover, “outsiders” to [Christianity], such as Buddhists, would almost certainly recognize them as belonging to the stream of Christian tradition.”

Likewise, a recent poll showed that the majority of Americans believe that Mormons are Christians.

You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.

Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:

1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.

Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

You can go on their site and actually chat live with them and ask them anything you want. I was bored one day and they were very informative. I'm not sure all the reasons why people say they aren't Christian. Their concept of the trinity is different . As I understand it they believe the holy spirit, God, and JEsus are three different entities. Not one. Anyway, go ahead and ask them things, they are really nice and they didn't call me or come over or anything like that.

Most of them say we believe in a different Jesus or God based on the differences between beliefs in the Trinity.

Mormons believe in the same Jesus Christ that is in the Bible, the same God. We read the King James Version of the Bible, we also have the Book of Mormon, another testament to Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that He died for our sins and was resurrected.

I wanted to thank you for asking this question, if you have more questions please go to either www.lds.org or www.mormon.org. Many of your questions can be easily answered there.

I have been in the LDS church for about 2 years after attending a Methodist church for most of my life. I have found that there really isn't a huge difference in doctrine. Don't get me wrong, there are some, but nothing my prayers didn't get answers for.

I hope you were able to get the answers you were looking for.

You have to understand the term "copy-cat religion"... Mormons have taken some stuff from the Bible and Christianity.. Some stuff from Freemasonry.. Some stuff from the Occult. Then they mixed it all together and called it "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" but the Jesus Christ of the Bible said on the cross: " IT IS FINISHED".. There were no chapters to follow.

Mormons believe in a jesus with many wives.

On another occasion Brigham Young (2nd Pres. of the Mormon Church) stated: "The Scripture says that He, the LORD, came walking in the Temple, with HIS TRAIN; I do not know who they were, unless HIS WIVES AND CHILDREN: . . ."(Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13, page 309)

Mormons believe in a Heavenly Father who was once a man who obeyed his way to become our God, and with his goddess wife, now make zillions of spirit babies in heaven to inhabit bodies. A spirit given to each of us when we were born come from this union between God and Mrs. God.

“ This doctrine that there is a Mother in Heaven was affirmed in plainness by the First Presidency of the Church (Joseph F. Smith…)(Man: Origin and Destiny, p.348-355.)

There are thousands of factors involved with Christians not considering Mormons our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Mormons believe God conceived with Mary in the normal natural way, while he was her part-time husband..

There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, CONCEIVED and born in the normal and natural course of events, for he is the Son of God, and that designation means what it says" (Mormon Doctrine, 1966, pg.742).

"Christ was Begotten by an immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers" (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 1966, pg.547).

The fleshly body of Jesus required a Mother as well as a Father. Therefore, the Father and Mother of Jesus, according to the flesh, must have been associated together in the capacity of Husband and Wife; hence the Virgin Mary must have, for the time being, the lawful wife of God the Father (The Seer, Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt, pg. 158).

As you can see from above.. The Mormons are pretty freakin sick!! Thanks for your time.

Because they are being ignorant. Seriously, it is the more stupid rumor ever. I am Mormon and I believe in Christ. I believe that He is the only begotten of our Father.

**End of story, Mormons are Christians.

I don't personally know if they are Christian's I just follow the Bible.

Galatians 1:7 - 10 basically says do not accept any doctrine delivered by angels or man. The book of Mormon was delivered to Joseph Smith by an angel Moroni. The information that makes up the Bible was delivered by Jesus through the Apostles.

To those who say would you go to a Chevy dealership to learn about Fords? I would respond why not go to both and then go to some outside independent sources. Why limit yourself unless your already sold on a Ford a priori. The problem with cultic mentality is they think only they possess reliable truth and that anyone who questions or challenges them are simply haters. Promotes bunker mentality. Us verse them.
