great room and the other half is a straight staircase. The walls are currently off white and there is nothing on them. What can I do for that huge plain wall next to the stairs? I have sage green carpet runner on the stairs with wood edges. Help?

Green is a cool color, but sage is a warm green. So, stay with a warm hue to be safe. What colors are in your great room? Choose a color to compliment and carry through in a brown undertone. I would think that the off white walls would be fine. I think if you hang some artwork following the line of the staircase it would solve your problem of looking plain. Pick up the sage green with other colors from your great room to tie it together.

Colors that I think would complement the green would be warm reds such as apple, coral, sunset, sherbet, claypot, or greys, tans or deer skin. Choose one of your secondary colors from your adjoining great room to keep the flow.

Put a soft warm color on your walls and accent it with photos or your favorite objects or mirrors. You might try a live plant in this area also.
