or is it still considered religious to this day?

I'm talking about December 31st and January 1st, by the way.

I'm sure that at SOME POINT it had to've been religious, people have been celebrating it since 2000BC.

Yes, the new year is celebrated as a day of rebirth, the beginning of cycle, and / or annual event by many religions. Some use the Christian (Julian) Calendar and others use calendars where the year starts in the fall / harvest, summer / solstice, or spring /equinox

Chinese have big loud parades to celebrate their new year

I imagine so, not necessarily to Christians but I find it hard to believe that some culture didn't see religous significance in the passing of the old year. Of course, it wasn't always Jan 1 and other cultures use different marks for the passing of the years.

I think it was in Rome, I think they called it Saturnalia.

And the New year celebration for some pagans and Wiccans is Samhain wich is October 31st and November 1st.

OMG you really need to look up the Julian calendar vs. the Gregorian calendar.

Julian or Gregorian, Hebrew, Christian, or Islamic.
Since you mentioned December 31st and January 1st, I assume you mean Gregorian calendar
The legal code of the United States does not specify an official national calendar. Use of the Gregorian calendar in the United States stems from an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1751, which specified use of the Gregorian calendar in England and its colonies.
So unless you mean ancient in terms of the last 300 years, it wasn't celebrated on those days prior to 1751.
