A easy way to do this, if you don't know how to use photoshop is to use www.picnik.com , you just upload your image , then go to edit , and after that you go to create, and then you make the image black and white, and then you use the paint brush to select the areas you want in color.

Are you working in Photoshop or a similar editing program?

If you're using a computer, make a copy of the color picture and convert that file to black and white. Then use your polygonal lasso tool to cut the part that you want to be in color from your color picture. Before you start cutting, set the pixel edge somewhere around 5 pixels, so that you get a little bit of a soft "blur" around where you cut. This will make the colored area blend into the black and white area. Once you've cut around the area you want to remain in color, select Copy, then select Paste on your black and white file. Drag the cut-out color area so that it fits perfectly over the corresponding area in black and white.

This is called "selective color," by the way. :)

It may be slightly different for different programs. First you have to duplicate layers so that you have two copies of the picture one on top of the other. You change the top to black and white. Next you erase areas on the top layer that you want in color. I would suggest paint net if you don't have another program it is free and there is a forum for help if you need it. See the link below.

photo-shop. There are many different ways to do this. First are you shooting film or digital? It is much easier with digital, although it can be done with film. Some digital cameras have a feature that will isolate a color & shoot the rest of the photo in b&w. You can also shoot a photo in color and then in photoshop highlight the areas you want to remain B&W. When using film one can hand color either the film or negative.

In PhotoShop use the lasso to draw a line around the object you want to be in color. Select feathering to make a smooth edge. Then select inverse so everything except that special area is what is selected. Now do the desaturation so the inverse area loses its color. Finally deselect and then you have the colored area and the B/W area.

Use a photo editor like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. OR take a picture of a colored light in a foggy area and that will be b/w and color.

Photoshop. Click image then click desaturate. copy the black and white picture then click File then New. Click yes and paste the picture you copy in the blank space. click File, then click Save a copy in jpeg. Close the original picture in black and white and leave the untitled copy. open the original copy again (in color) of the original picture. copy which side of of the picture you wish to paste to the black and white copy. after pasting it, move the pasted part of the picture to the right position like the original the copy merge it and start with file new again at the begining and paste the Copy merge picture

Copy your photo so you have 2 identical images. With one copy, change it to the black and white. With the second copy, erase everything that you don't want to be in color. Take the remaining part (which is the part you want in color) and overlay it on the black and white copy and position it in place.

Get Adobe Photoshop, highlight part of the picture, then use the tools to change the color effects.
