Girls wear spandex for volleyball because they are tight fitting and are more comfortable to be moving around in. They are very important to the uniform because if you are digging for a ball, you are on the floor, and it would be rather embarrassing if you had shorts that were dragged down with you. Spandex fit the shape of your body and are easy to move around in. They just help. I love volleyball and the spandex that comes with it.

most of these answers are correct...the ones about better performance. Reggie...guys don't ware spandex becasue the dont HAVE to! Girls on the otherhand...well...when your diving for a ball, your usually sliding, and then if you ware normale shorts, the come up. But spandex are tight fiting so they wont do that! guys usually don't seem to have that problem, i dont know why but thats how it is!

Because they don't ride up, they offer better protection from floor burns, and they stay in place. There is nothing worse than diving for a ball and having to worry about if your shorts are going to ride up and show off the undies. . . You don't worry about that with spandex. It is also more comfortable because they don't bunch up. Spandex stays put. You aren't trying to fix your shorts while watching to see if the ball is coming back at you.

because its necessary... i mean who doesn't like spandex?
its better than those ugly manly basketball uniforms
at least we volleyball players can play hard and look good at the same!

omg!!!! i LOVE spandex. women volleyball players wear spandex because they are comfy and we dont have to worry about them while were playing in a game! It's much easier to play in spandex because it holds it all in and there is no worry about them ridding up when diving on the floor or when jumping or anything like that. men don't wear spandex because that just would'nt be kool and women look much better in them!! Guys also think its HOTT!!!!

its easier to move around, like when you have to dive for a ball or something. it just takes the hassel out.

I think it's because the women look attractive in them. Lots of people have answered that it's because of performance. If that's the case, then why don't the men wear it, like in pro football, and why don't women wear it when playing basketball? Some people have answered that it's so the shorts don't fall down. That's weird, b/c all you have to do is tie the drawstring, and it'll stay on your waist. When was the last time you saw the shorts come down when men play? If it wasn't for the women looking cute in the spandex, I'm sorry to say, no one would watch women's volleyball. Look at the beach game. Is it *really* necessary to wear bikinis to play? Why not wear loose fitting shorts (like the men do) and a sports bra?
I see women, in the indoor game, constantly pulling their spandex shorts down. They wouldn't have to do that if they were wearing shorts.
