I'm trying to make a cranberry-apple cake but the recipe requires nutmeg and I don't have any. So is there any substitute for it?

Cinnamon is similar, but your recipe probably calls for that too.
Just omit the nutmeg and add it next time.

The best substitute for nutmeg is cardamom but you also can use ground cinnamon, ginger, mace, allspice or cloves, starting with half the amount specified and adding more to taste.

A lot of people said try cardamom instead. I'd go for cinnamon, but if you DO use cardamom, use A LITTLE BIT. It has a much stronger flavor than nutmeg.

Nope! You might try a little cinnamon for a different taste, but nutmeg is nutmeg ... no substitute will work.

How about allspice? Do you have any of that? It's like nutmeg and cloves and goes good in cakes.

If the cake calls for other spices (cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, cloves) you can probably get away w/ leaving it out.
If it doesn't, cinnamon would be nice w/ the apples in any case.
