Has anyone else had this happen to them? I am studying abroad next semester in Paris on January 11, 2008. I recently got my student visa at the French Consulate. For some reason, on my visa it says valid from FEB 11, - Aug 11, 2008. I don't know if this is a typo, or if it is supposed to be like that. I didn't think a consulate could be so incompetent to mess up the dates so I'm still confused. I tried calling them but no one is answering. Thanks!!!

You keep asking for emergency help here when you should be going directly back to the consulate that issued the visa and having them replace it with a correct one. Nobody at YA is in a position to change it for you - go back and get the visa re-issued. If all of your paperwork was correct, and it was an unintentional administrative error on their part, it could be re-issued on the spot, or if it has to be mailed to them, you should get it back within three days with same day FedEx each way prepaid (by you). If you take care of it as soon as the office opens after the holidays, it should not be a problem. If you ask this question again, without taking the necessary steps to have your visa re-issued, then I'll certainly understand from where your screen name came.

Well unfortunately they are incompetent sometimes. You need to contact consulate and inform them about mistake and ask for help. If your visa is valid from Feb 11 you can not enter the country before that. So, call them and get the to issue you proper visa.

Your visa is valid only up to August 11, 2008 and do not forget to apply for an extension.

If you are American you don't need a visa to enter France. So you wont get stopped at passport control. You just need a visa if you plan to be there for a long time. By the time Feb 11 comes around you will still be under a valid tourist visa. No need to worry. Since visas are given in 6 or 7 month intervals, they probably just gave a visa beginning in February so that you could travel around France during the summer after your semester ended.
And dont bother calling a French consulate during the holidays! They hate work!

right now as you know? it is holidays seasons? you did know that?
first of all, if a mistake was made in the date? please do not panic; gee, and try not to get that rude, while explaining to them , such as saying # incompetent # you will certainly not get a favorable answer for sure, everyone makes mistakes, it is NOT a big deal?
you can go to France with that visa, and once you are in France, go see your counselor, the date will be changed ........
do not forget? if you do stay longer? to get your # carte de résidence # # residency card # you will need one as soon as you get there? see, we, french people are not as incompetent? :-)
