We have the support of Scripture and Tradition for referring to God as "Father." Scripture and Tradition are channels of divine revelation.
Referring to God as "Mother" has no basis in revelation.
It is an innovation influenced by faddish concerns for political correctness.

This is not to say that God is male, any more than God is female. Nor is God both.
God is above sexual distinction. Still, the fact that God is always referred to in revelation with masculine pronouns leaves us no alternative.
To refer to God in the feminine is to suggest that we can shape God to our preferences, rather than be shaped by God for our salvation.

God is purely spirit and, therefore, neither male nor female but God has qualities that some people associate with being male or female and, historically assign God a gender.

Father Sky, Mother Earth. The rain(semen) from the sky impregnates the earth and she in return gives birth to life.

This is ONE(very simplified) notion of why god(which has often times been thought to dwell in sky/heavens) may be believed to be male.

The way people in ancient times viewed their gods is connected to the way we view ours today.

I don't think he has a gender, but since he refers to himself as a man, our Father, etc, in scripture, that's probably the gender he wants to be acknowledged as. Maybe it's because we humans can't really think of something that has no gender that he lets us think of him that way.

Of course he is. Only one of us guys could have ****** things up this badly. Of course, that is assuming that such a being would be beyond reproductive needs, and the matter is purely a matter of his mental and emotional state. So, as I said, it's a he :D
