Tell your supervisor verbally but hand them a letter of resignation at the same time. In the letter state that you are resigning and that you have enjoyed working for the company. It does no harm to be nice and helps your chances of getting a good reference from them later.

I am not sure what you mean by restaurant worker. If you are a waiter/waitress, then you can just give verbal notice. Sit down with your supervisor and explain the situation. If you are the manager or have a higher position, then yes, you should submit a letter of resignation.

Type a quick letter. Nothing long, just "I appreciate the opportunity to have worked here, but I am resigning effective January xx, 2008." They will appreciate that and it is the right thing to do.

A letter is appropriate when you verbally tell you supervisor that you are leaving.

The letter is simple:

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am resigning my position as _____ effective ______.

Sincerely,

You name.

Date the letter and hand it to them when you tell them.

Write a letter giving two weeks notice, whenever possible leave on good terms, then you can have a good reference for your next stop.

Do up a letter:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Buss your own table,
I am through!

you should definitely give your 2 weeks notice...you wont loose anything, even duh I know that job sucks cause my bro works in one, it will give you a reference some time in your future, and second just because you work on a restaurant don't mean you have no manners.
Good luck!!!
