I installed a Nutone 1250 watt heater as a replacement in a ceiling fixture. I used a 6 ft extension cord of 14 guage. I attached 1 end to the heater and plugged the plug in to the ceiling receptacle. Do I have enough guage in my wire for this heater? Should I have used a 12 guage wire? Thanks for any answers.

While you will probably be ok, It is actually illegal to use extension cord in a permanent fixture. You should have used cable or conduit or wire with the proper insulation for the environment. Wire sizing and insulation type is determined by the load as well as environment. Using a cut extension cord is really a ghettofabulous, halfassed way to wire something

The gauge is adequate, but the unit needs to be connected / wired and installed properly for safety.

A #14 Ga. cord should be fine in free air.
