I was unaware my license was expired. drove to church, parked car was hit, 500 worth of damage if I report it to their insurance will i get fined or in trouble. The police were not contacted at the time of the accident. The day after the accident I renewed my license without any problem.

Shouldn't be any trouble. The only you're going to get into trouble with an expired license is if it's expired at the time when the police look at it and you're driving.

If there is $500 worth of damage it may not be worth claiming for anyway - check your excess which might be around this amount anyway as I am in NSW and my excess is $500 so it might be cheaper to get fixed without going through insurance - as the car was parked it is irrelevant whether you had a license or not - that question will probably not even be asked when you lodge a claim as you were not driving at the time the car was damaged, for all they know someone else with a license could have driven it and parked it (I am assuming it was your car that was parked when it was hit from the way your question is worded), however if you were driving your car and collided with a parked car, then yes insurance may refuse the claim on grounds of driving without a license. good luck

it depends where you are.

if you are in australia and it's just expired (ie not cancelled by the police or suspended by the police) then the insurer DOES have grounds to refuse to pay a claim but they'd be pretty harsh to do so.

i would imagine if you put what you have written down in a stat dec and advised it was an oversight, they wouldn't have an issue.
