I signed up for the marines. Im going to bootcamp in July 08'. A few marines who finished bootcamp said they will be in infantry. They said they chose to be in infantry.

If I chose a job that isnt relevant to combat, will I, for some reason, still be drafted against my will?

You can get out of it until the day you get on a plane and go to Boot Camp. If you are having second thoughts about it, it is natural. The choice is up to you at this point.

First of all good choice on picking the Marines. Ooh Rah! Now, combat is what the Marines do. "Every Marine a rifleman." You are a Marine 1st, whatever else 2nd. You can't be drafted; there is no draft and you volunteered!

I know Navy cooks with M-16's standing guard over prisoners in Iraq. You're joining the military and you've committed to "obeying the orders" of those appointed you.

Drafted isnt the right word, you volunteered so you can't be drafted, you're already in. If you didn't want to go to war, the Marines was probably the worst choice, next is Army. If you didn't want to be in a dangerous job, you probably should've joined the Navy or Air Force.

You're joining the Marines and asking if you'll be "drafted" for combat?? Boy, are you picking the wrong service.

You've volunteered for the Marines, and they pride themselves on the fact that every Marine is a rifleman. One nice thing about Marine boot camp, though, is that you'll grow up there.

There arent many jobs in the military that ARENT somehow related to combat.

If you are afraid of going into combat, maybe the military isnt for you right now...

You signed up, you are at the mercy of the military. If you didn't want to go to Iraq why did you sign up?
During a war all jobs are needed. You have to have support. I think you need to call your recruiter and back out now.

If you want to avoid combat you shouldn't have joined the Marines...

LOOK you could pick a non-combat Mos...but the marine corps could change your choice later...Most likely improbable. But keep in mind that all marines ARE all Infantry first.
