What's the difference between storing an egg pointy-end down and wide-bottom-end down?

I have always heard wide side down. I guess this is because the fluid inside the eggs is supported better.

No, not really. I just leave them alone in the carton. It's not the way they are placed in terms of which end is down that will make much of a difference in terms of freshness, if that's your question. This issue is that people take eggs out of cartons and put them in those little egg shaped plastic shelves in the fridge.

Keep in the carton for freshness.

In a dark room, light a candle. Hold the egg behind the flame, you will be able to see through the eggshell. Look for the little chick's head, and place that side up in the carton.
