They used to call the slot machines with the handle on the side "one arm bandits" because they were like bandits stealing people's money.
People who regularly play the slot machines will ultimately lose their money because they are not designed to be generous to punters/players but rather have been programmed to make money for others.
It's quite simple really. The owners/authorities dial in a percentage that the machines must pay out and it doesn't matter what you try and do to fool the machine it won't let you win overall. Sure you'll win on some occasions but in end you can't win if you keep playing.
It's a very bad form of gambling in my opinion. Usually what happens it that the machine keeps letting you win in small amounts until eventually it gobbles up all your money.
For example machine has to pay out 90% back to punters but if you spend say $20.00 it will let you keep winning small amounts all the time until it gets your whole $20.00. Ulimately it gets your $20.00 by feeding you small amounts to keep you playing until it takes the whole $20.00 off you so that it has actually paid back 90% even though you get left with nothing of your original amount.

Modern slot machines are electronic and have random number generators that come up with another random number every time you pull the lever (or push the button) sooner or later, the random number will be the one the machine is waiting for and it pays off accordingly.
There is no legal way to beat the machine. There are several illegal devices that mostly involving fooling the machine into thinking more money was inserted into it or fooling the machine into not realizing how much it is paying out on a win.
The Casinos are well aware of any device or methodology required to commit this crime and will catch anyone who tries it. They always prosecute to the furthest extent possible to make an example of you.

Slot machine has a random algorithm. Thus you can`t cheat it. Even playing free versions of the slots like at webslotcasino.com you can`t change the algorithm.

the machine is set a point and can not be changed by anyone at the casino unless you bring some that will cause the machine to break or cause it to hit all the time
