Do people really pay much attention if you have linen or plastic on the tables for tableclothes? We are talking about a $1500 plus expense for linen, which would be pretty,......but is it really expected as long as we have great food, great band playing and free drinks???? I'd rather spend that $1500 and use it to upgrade to a very romantic suite in Cancun then on tables.

LOL! You guys kill me! I live in Evansville, Indiana which is a decent size city.....BUT people here do not do elaborate weddings like you would find in bigger cities such as Indianapolis, St Louis, Chicago and etc. If we want to order linen from our hometown it will actually be well over $2500. If we order from the internet from a rental shop based in Chicago it will be around $1500 or so.
And actually it is not tacky at all for your iformation.

Hi and congratulations!
Wow! That is a LOT of money for linen tablecloths! How many tables are you having?
Here is a company that I can recommend. I rented chair covers from them for my son's wedding.
http://www.chaircoversonline.com/
Click on "ordering info"...and you can then click on "sizes and pricing". A basic linen tablecloth is anywhere from $4 to $14, depending on the size. Even if you had the most expensive at $14 and had 50 tables (which would be 400 people!)....it would only be $700....less than 1/2 of what you would pay with the other company.
I live in a very rural area in Michigan and have gone to ones with plastic and paper...but if you can upgrade a little....IT IS noticed!
If you are having something outside in a backyard....that is another story, but it sounds like yours is indoors.
Good luck and check out that site. I can vouch for the ontime delivery and good quality.

You can do plastic if you want to put the money elsewhere. Make it the best plastic tablecloths you can find, remember you aren't hosting a birthday party, it's your wedding. Another alternative to linens are Like Linen table cloths. They feel like linen but are disposable like plastic or paper table cloths. I've done weddings in which the bride and groom couldn't afford to do rented linens. We used plastic tablecloths, plates, and silverware. People were so amazed with the design they didn't think much about it being plastic opposed to linen. If you rather spend the $$$ in Cancun than go for it. It will still be just as beautiful.

I am all for linen. But if you ahve to do the plastic tablecloths maybe get a square of chiffon in your weding colors and it put it on the top. But just where the corners would hit the edge of the table. I have never seen it done but it might take away from the plastic a little bit. You could even try some toehr fabric that goes with your theme. Good Luck!

I have to say linen. I'm all for spending more on the honeymoon, but I can't suggest plastic tablecloths. Is there any other place you can skimp? You don't even have to have centerpieces, but linen is a must.

No plastic!
It's better to have no tablecloths than those made of plastic.
An alternative, however, would be to go to the fabric store and purchase cloth you like, cut to length for the tables. Or even window panels, which you could get for $5/piece at the dollar store (panels are usually 72x108--a size which would cover most tables).

If your wedding is more laid back then go for the plastic. If you're spending thousands on your reception and ceremony then plastic will look out of place. Plastic fits when you have your reception at a firehall, park or have a picnic/BBQ reception. In the end, people won't care too much. It'll just be more noticeable if you're trying to do something formal.

Well where is your wedding being held? If you are having a backyard reception, you can get away with it. If you are having a more formal reception, don't do it.
You can definitely tell the difference between linen and plastic. If I were at a more formal event, I'd giggle a bit if I were eating off of a plastic tablecloth.
I think it's a bit selfish to say that your guests aren't worthy of eating off of real table clothes. It's a bit selfish to want to spend that money on yourself. If that's the case, you should have scaled your wedding back entirely.
You either do something right or not at all. Don't half @$$ something, so you can have a better hotel room. That's tacky and disrespectful toward your guests.

Personally, I think plastic is a very noticable detriment to the overall effect you are trying for. Have you checked with all your local event/party rentals? Also check with your local commercial laundry supplier. A cotton ployester blend would be less expensive, and look just as nice, too. For $1500, you could buy them and probably have plenty left over.
