Think about it. While serving in a war zone, every Soldier must be "combat ready" at a moment's notice. Even while asleep in their bunks, while eating breakfast, even while in the bathroom....at any time they can be called upon to pick up their weapons and enter a battle zone. Can you sit there and tell me that you think it is a good idea for a Soldier who has been drinking to operate a deadly weapon? I didn't think so.
No Soldier becomes inducted into the US Armed Forces NOT KNOWING that he/she will not be permitted to drink alcohol everywhere they are stationed.
So, you just found out that our Soldiers in Iraq are not allowed to drink alcohol while there. And you think it's wrong.
Who cares what you think.
It's none of your concern.
The fine men and women serving today are just fine with that policy.

Point One the military people are not going to war and dying for oil they are going to war and dying as ordered by the President, authorized by Congress and because the prior Iraqi government broke the cease fire agreement by reusing to allow UN inspectors to verify WMD's had all been destroyed. Is the "can't drink whine the ne reason for the war to be bad" mantra for people disagreeing with the war. Facts are Marines of any age are allowed to drink on base as requested by the SgtMaj of the Marine Corps and backed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps other services could do the same as military bass are federal property and the military command runs the base (civilian laws don't apply), drinking ages are a state mandated thing and not controlled by the federal government (Bush has nothing to do with it) and the drinking age was lowered to 18 in the 1970's when the voting age was dropped from 21 to 18. The age was quickly raised back up because of the huge numbers of 18 year olds killing themselves by driving drunk. If you want the drinking age lowered in your state talk to your state government but doubt if they will do it. So it is really not a right or wrong thing from the military standpoint-they can and have allowed people under to drink based on the commanders discretion but off base is the state or local governments jurisdiction and they have no say in it.

RTO Trainer and GunnyC pretty much spelled it out for anyone with a brain. Thanks guys, you are awesome.
Miss Christine, please, check your facts and your sources. Granted, it is your opinion, but you know what they say about opinions... Oil has nothing to do with what is going on. Tell me this, how would you feel about it if the soliders were pulled out and brought home, and the bad guys followed them here and the fight was being fought right here? Maybe even in your yard? Would you rather it be here or there? Cause it is gonna happen one way or the other.

Actually yes. But keep in mind laws change from Country to Country. If he is overseas I don't think he is bound by US law.
He is bound by the law of the Country he is in and Military Law(Which is a lot stricter in some ways).
I seem to remember that a lot of soldiers got court Martials in the First Gulf war because they smuggled in Alcohol to Saudi Arabia. Which is illegal there due to Islamic Law.

Yeah one of the dumbest laws in America. Two twenty year olds can also get married, but they would be arrested for having a toast of champagne at their own wedding. 21 drinking age does not stop legal adults 18-20 from drinking, just changes WHERE they drink since they gotta be sneaky about it. Lower the drinking age to 18!

You know...the problem is too many 18 yr olds are drinking...and dying on the roads everyday...and yes some even kill others...and they are not even soldiers.
Never had a war for oil...so no one is dying for oil.

First of all I don't think anyone has gone to war for oil, and military service is voluntary.
Why can't they have a beer? We used to have a ration of 2 bottles of beer a day (and our shot of rum) we could drink em' or (as we often did) save them up for when we had some R&R time.
Never heard of any military denying it's men some of the basic rights.
Although saying that when we served with the USMC or USN I know they were dry at sea, used to piss them off when we were on there ships and could still drink!!

No one's dying for oil.
Military service is voluntary.
I fail to see a disparity here.
The next person who is drafted, below the age of 21, I'll personally meet at the airfield with a six-pack.
My money is safe.
