Hi! Me and my family are looking for the Irish Heatley Coat of Arms. We reckon it has three boars heads on it, but we cannot find it. We are also looking for any information on our family tree. Please help me with the crest search, and if you want to ask more about the family search, please say so in your answer.

There are a few people on this board that resent those of us who warn about the total dishonesty of the surname products business. I don't know if they are in the pocket of one of the merchants of deceit that peddle "family crest," or maybe they have one of those dinky little walnut plaques on their den walls or over their fireplace and they don't want it known that those things are not legit.
There are no laws in the U.S. regarding heraldry and there are merchants of deceit that take advantage of American gullibility. In some countries a person would risk prosecution for displaying a coat of arms without documented proof that they are entitled to it.

Any professional genealogist that goes into their homes and see those things in order to be polite wil not laugh. House of Names, Hall of Names, Swyrich and other selling surname products have a bad reputation with genealogist. Please see the links below, one from the British College of Arms, the other from the most prestigious genealogical organization in the U.S., The National Genealogical Society and the other regarding Irish Coats of arms.

Now it is possible House of Names has one with Heatley underneath it. However, I would be totally dishonest if I didn't tell you that it might not have anything to do with you or any one to whom you are related.

Actually, there might have been 5 different coats of arms granted to 5 individuals named Heatley and then there might not be any. However, peddlers that sell them will not have all 5. They don't need to in order to sell to gullible people.

House of Names has in fine print the following information:

"We encourage you to study the Heatley genealogy to find out if you descend from someone who bore a particular family crest.
No families, not even royal houses, can make sound claim to the right to bear arms unless a proven connection is made through attested genealogical records."

If this is a school project go ahead and print off one that you find on House of Names or any of the other websites peddling them.
However, also print off the 3 links I have provided you and give those to your teacher. He/she should be impressed with your research.

Coat of Arms were granted to INDIVIDUALS, not assigned to surnames. Just because someone of your last name was granted one at some point does not make it yours. In order for you to be able to claim any Coat of Arms you MUST do the following:
1. research your family tree to see if you have any ancestors that were granted a Coat of Arms.
2. If you do have an ancestor who was granted one, then you can only claim it if the following is true: The person who rightfully can claim a Coat of Arms that was granted to their ancestor is a male descendant who is the first born son, of the first born son, of the first born son, of the first born son, etc., all the way back to the person who was originally granted the Coat of Arms. If you do not fall in that line, then you cannot claim it.
