well my family isnt too fond of the idea that i like white guys(im black), and i told my mom about the guy i liked and asked what she thought. and she said that id be better off with someone who "looks like me". and that really shocked me. i mean, i cant help who i like. she thinks that he may just like me because he wants to see what'd be like if he dated a "black" girl.

im really confused, should i persue my feelings with him? and let my mom deal with it. or...what?

Hello sweetie by all means do so, I never like telling anyone to not listen to a parent because I am a parent but sometimes we have to let go of the miserable past. Not saying that old nasty word prejudice is not alive and well, and will be until this old world is no more. The only thing you can do is look into the eyes of another and search out his soul and if you see feelings come from there honey go for it.Our own race break our hearts. And sweetie a heart break is a heart break, no matter the color of the person that broke it. Love and respect your parents always and you know they are trying to protect you but tell them some things you can not be protected in, and you have to experience things for your self and if it does not work the one guarantee you have is that they will always be there to comfort you without all the I told you sooooo. Good luck hon and Happy New Year and I hope it brings you lots of unconditional love, peace, and happiness.

If your 18 or over you gotta live your life. I know it hurts when parents are like this. My mom has freaked out over having a granddaughter not the same color since she was born 15 yrs ago. I didnt think my mom was such an idiot but my sis didn't care what my mom thought and doesn't to this day.
I think it is amazing , you never know who is going to be predjudice until a situation pops up, and thats what your mom is being now.

Predjudice... means decided before the matter. to pre judge. How can your mom know what is going to happen in your relationship before you even persue it..

I say follow your heart.

its ur life, and race should have no factor in what you feel. its been awhile since ive heard this kind of, for lack of a better word, racism from family members, and what ur family needs to understand is that times have changed, and in todays society, race has little factor, and not all guys think the same way they did back then. Go with ur feelings and show ur mom how well it can all work out.

if the guy likes you for who you are and what your abt, then what is the problem?? there is nothing wrong with interracial dating. i understand your mom is protecting you, but not all white guys are like that. listen to your mom. i dont know how old you are. i am a black woman and i am dating a white man and i love him very much. my family really likes him too. and his mom is crazy abt me. nothing wrong with it. its 2008 and people need to step out of the box and stop being so closed mined.

and you know what they say, "once you go black, your never go back!!"

Are you being serious? That sounds very presumptuous on the part of your mom. You can get hurt by people regardless of race. Girls sometimes seem to choose people of another race on purpose sometimes, but I've never heard of a guy's doing that, maybe because we're less curious. It sounds quite outlandish to suspect that about a guy, unless maybe she knows something about him that led her to believe that.

Btw, why the "white" avatar?

maybe you should get to know the guy more so you can actually see what he finds in a girl or what.If you feel that he's all about a girl's inside then go for it, then explain to your mom that he is the type of guy who wont hurt you.but if he's just all about the looks leave him.dont get into him anymore and find someone better.
hope that helps
goodluck! :]

it doesn't matter what race he is as long he someone you really like and you know you want to be with him.and don't listen to your mom you should be able to go out with who ever you like, and if is just going out with you because your black at least he will know he got the best experience of his life.

p.s. i like the white guys 2

your mom is probably not racist, she just does not want you to have to put up with the rest of the world judging, harassing, or generally disapproving of you.
i can sympathize with you. i have dated people outside of my race, and my family felt similar to your mom. but it was my lesson to learn, as it is yours.
the only thing i would say to you , as one who has been there.
~be sure he is worth it~ the last thing you want to do is fight to be with someone who is not worthy of you.
plus that will drill it home for your mom that she was right, and if you meet someone again in the future..it will be the same thing again.

good luck~ follow your heart, just use your head too!!

Persue it... I mean only if he likes you too.
Race shouldn't be a factor in who you date... If he's a nice guy, he's a nice guy... the color of his skin doesn't change that!
Best Of Luck!
