It's usually better to deduct the cost of the rental and the fuel, etc. That's usually more than the mileage rate anyway.

You can deduct business miles either for a car you own or one you lease.

If you are truly talking about a rental car, if you're renting it strictly for a business trip, you can deduct the whole amount of the rental.
