i am a student and my parents still claim me on their taxes...can they write off a laptop for my schooling?

Not unless you are required to by it FROM THE SCHOOL, not the school bookstore, as a condition of attending the class - in that case it would be included in your tuition. If they bought you a laptop to use for school, no it isn't deductible.

No.

The laptop was not required for attendance and the school did not make you pay for it as part of your tuition.
