You could get a book on decorating and design from library to gain some inspiration. There are lots of them with colourful illustrations.
I like the idea of having pillows and sitting on the floor. But must admit I use a wardrobe for my clothes or closet as you call it. It is best to buy one rather than have someone build it into your room. because a built in one you cannot move it afterward if you want it in another place.
I once bought purple wallpaper rather than painting my room purple.
Though i have gone for lighter colours these days.
While purple can have a rich effect it is also thought to be depressing.
I am a qualified decorator. We had to do the psychology of colour. Those days in order to pass advanced craft.
Lively colours such as: yellows and reds, on the other hand can give you a head ache, unless they are in places you do not stay for long like a cafe.
probably if you typed in images design and did a web search you might come up with something you like.
Most professional decorators merchants (shops) would also be able to advise you.
All the best with it.

There are good ways to create storage. First, you need to declutter -- get rid of everything you haven't used in the past year, or get rid of it if it doesn't make you smile.
You can store out of season clothes in those stackable cases, then stack two and cover with a pretty cloth to make a night table. (-: Of course, you'll have to destroy it twice a year to change your clothes, but that should keep the clutter down on your night table.
The big thing is to pare down your stuff. If you've got too much, you can't find the good stuff, anyway!
Good luck!
