Depending on size [weight] will determine how many years to one human. A smaller dog has only 6 years to every one human. A large breed dog like a Great Dane or St. Bernard has 7. As a large breed dog gets to be full grown or older the years increase so lets say at 1 human year the dog would be 7, but at 4 years old he'd be about 36 rather than 28, hence why Great Danes and St. Bernards live to only about 8 years old. The bigger the dog the faster he ages. If you have a medium breed dog then add 7 years to every one human. 3 years = 21 years dog. Hope that helps.

The dog to human age comparison had been revamped many years ago due to a better understanding of canine development and psychology. Therefore, the "Seven years" equation is incorrect. The newer system is still a generalization, but much more accurate.
By the end of the first year you have a "teenage" dog. 8 years is considered relative "Middle aged" for most long lived breeds. Not every year has equal growth, just like humans.

Dogs age faster in the first couple of years and then it slows down a little.
Canine Age = Human Age
2 Months = 14 Months
6 Months = 5 Years
8 Months = 9 Years
1 Year = 15 Years
2 Years = 24 Years
3 Years = 28 Years
4 Years = 32 Years
5 Years = 37 Years
6 Years = 42 Years
7 Years = 47 Years
8 Years = 52 Years
9 Years = 57 Years
10 Years = 62 Years
11 Years = 67 Years
12 Years = 72 Years
13 Years = 77 Years
14 Years = 82 Years

If the dog is 2 years old than it is 25 years old in human years than it is 4 years for every 1 year after that.
