How would you propose some policy changes to stop the flood of illegals to the United States?

Quit making it so attractive to work here . . . make corporations pay a fair wage to workers and punish those employers who continue to hire undocumented workers because they are cheap labor.

Very excellent....
1. Major fines and jail time for anyone who hires illegals.
2. No benefits whatsoever for any illegal immigrants.
3. End the birthright. Make it so at least 1 parent must be a US citizen, or legal immigrant, for a child to gain citizenship at birth.
4. Make it so no one who has entered illegally, or overstayed a visa by 6 months or so, has any shot at ever becoming a citizen.
5. Put the military on the border.
6. Make English the official language. No education, or government documents in other languages.
7. Deport any illegals that are found.

get tough on employers who hire illegals, thereby taking away the job incentive to come here. Hold the owners and corporate boards responsible and put their butts in jail for ignoring the law or figuring they will still save money even by paying a fine and make it come off the stock value, then the share holders would also force the issue.
Build the fence, not some little chain link, but a solid, border barrier built to shield us from more than illegals, i.e. terrorists, riots by the illegals being forced out etc. Patrol the border with military.
Deport them now! It is not racist to want all illegals out. On their way out, educate them with a course on how to return legally.
Change the anchor baby laws. Have all schools, license bureaus, welfare, other aid, colleges, insurance companies etc. check their legal status before giving auto titles, licenses etc.
No safe harbor cities, charities, etc. criminalize those who hide them.
Get tough with the government of Mexico and other governments as necessary.
Make enlish the official language. No more dial 2 for....

To get tough on immigration would mean a slow in the american econemy. The mexicans do a great many jobs that many americans themself wouldn't do and for cheaper. For instance if one highschool dropout is applying for an illegal immigrant is the immigrant will in all likelyhood get the job becasue he or she is looking to get paid less meaning company's pay less for someone of equal intellegence as their entire workforce. This probley dosn't anserw your question but this is why in my honest opinion illegal immigrants arn't all that bad.

I know that whoever is elected President whether its Obama, or Clinton or Edwards a Republican or whatever because of the pressure from the public they WILL do something MORE than what we have been doing in recent years and months. So, I wouldn't worry too much because the real sanctions are going to come down on companies hiring these people and because of that they will have no jobs to come to!

I would propose putting our military on the border. I would propose imposing heavy fines and jail time to those who insist on hiring illegals and renting to illegals. I would cut off federal money to all those cities that shelter and harbor illegals. There would have to be stricter enforcement. Our national security is at stake. I am with you, Joel!

I know this election year is a pivotal point, I think that everyone needs to report suspected illegal immigrants and when you suspect that they are working for a company under the table report the company as well.....

People should do their own housework and do their own yardwork. Enforce current laws instead of making new ones. That would be a good start but it won't work because the real issue here is laziness not legislation.

Do not get tough on the immigrants go after the employers.And do provide work permits for an time frame.
Have an good hard look at the emigration marriage.
