If you read the Koran, wife-beating is permissible. There aren't many men who beat their wives who don't also beat their children. That sort of behavior was blessed in the Bible as well, but Judaism and Christianity are able to move beyond that. Islam is stuck.

For a practical matter, I've met a couple Muslim men here who maintain two or three marriages to different women (they're not legal, but they are de facto). Each of these wives collects welfare and medical assistance, and they give a portion of their collections to their collective husband. So it would seem that they are maintaining him, and not the other way around. They are Somali refugees.

Muslim maintains his family with Hala (permissible) source of income. In other words selling liquor or drugs and maintaining wife and children is Haram because his sale hurts his customers. Muslim believes that children do what they see parents doing. This is how their value system
develops. If he will raise his children with dirty money of selling drugs and supplying women for sex, children will think it is ok to do what father does, so they will do the same when they will become adults.
He makes his wife and children to obey Allah, pray five times a day, make them observe fasting if they can age and health wise and give money to needy people for the pleasure of Allah.

This is the way your question should be asked/written:

How does a Muslim man maintain his wife and children?

The term Muslim describes a follower of Islam.

That's like saying:

How does a Christianity man maintain his wife and children?

Okay, to answer your question:

Truth be told, Muslim women and children are, in fact, viewed and treated as, not only property, but as second class citizens.

It once was that a Muslim woman was not allowed out of doors of her home except for two times in her life: her marriage and her burial. Wearing a Burka, a Hijab, etc has been a profound advancement.

Hope this helps.

Muslim men maintain their wife and children like any other husband and father would... they work and provide things necessary for living. Why would Muslim men be any different than men of another religion???

Many work just like westerners. The standards of living are much lower, except for those who are more successful. They live in more modest housing for the most part except in the oil rich countries, and then actually live at a higher level than many western countries.
