Why is it that some believers refer to themselves as god fearing rather than god worshiping if god is so loving, caring, and good then why is it that some of you refer to yourselves as god fearing?

well if you don't fear him in the new sense of the word why is it not that you change the phrase to god worshiping or god respecting to clarify if you don't truly fear god as you say you do.

to question the answer about god not being a person... shouldn't he be pretty close considering he made man in his own image and has a long standing history of displaying human emotions like anger and jealousy.

Hi :-) God fearing means having a deep respect for...It's the same type of respect you have for a parent or loved one where you care about them so much that you don't want to do anything to hurt them or disappoint them. Fear in this instance is not trembling and being scared....Hope that helps :-)

God is not a person. God is God. To be God fearing means to have reverence to the power and might of an awesome God. After all, He did create the earth in 6 days. That is quite an awesome feat.
Remember what Jesus says: "Fear not that man can destroy your body and have nothing more to do to you. But fear the one who can cast both soul and body in Hell." And Hell is forever. Remember that a good God is also a good judge, and He has created his own place of punishment called Hell which He also sustains forever.

Well, God-fearing refers to the Wrath of God. Which many believe he will strike down the worst sinners among us.
So, God-fearing keeps us on the straight and narrow, to not even think of being a bad person.

Historically, it was thought that the proper attitude towards God was one of terrified, knee-melting awe. Ergo, to 'fear' the Lord was the same as showing a proper respect for a being of such Earth-shaking power.

It's not that kind of fear. it's not the fear that means scared. It means that you respect god and that you worship him and try your best not to make mistakes. You love God in such a way that you fear being bad becuause you don't want to leave his presence beacuse of something you did.

Are you afraid of homelesness yes?
So you will be motivated by this fear by getting educated, getting a good job,and making sure you and your family are secure right?
It is more this kind of fear that is referred to by Christians, the fear of being lost to the Lord, lost of purpose,of security in Him,for in Him is peace, true love and eternal life.
So we are motivated by this healthy fear into finding out what it is God wants us to do with our lives in order to have a productive and secure life.

Fearing its used in the sense of respect, many wives are saying they are fearing their husbands and many husbands are saying they are fearing their wives, and that doesn't mean they are not loving each other. When you'll really love somebody you'll understand.God is loving you and always will love you no matter what you'll think or do,only I don't recommend ever to challenge Him.
