I was eating at this restaurant last night with a small parking lot with tight spaces, with dead ends on every row of spaces, so if there was no spaces. I did a three point turn, and went around the block and parked on the other side of the restaurant where there was a couple spots. 2 hours later i came out of the restaurant and there was a note on the windshield that said i hit their 300c and that they would be in contact, but they left nither their name, phone number, or plate number. How am i supposed to contact them to resolve this if i don't have their info. If i knew i hit them i would of left my name and insurance, since i am out of state and was driving my cousins suv. There is no visible damage to the suv as i could see, but the suv is pretty rusted out, and i couldn't find the 300c to inspect that. There was a witness, should i go back to the restaurant and ask whose car this was. I have my own insurance, i just don't want my cousin getting in trouble for this.

How would i hear about it, I just don't want anyone getting in serious trouble, since i had no clue i hit them(my car didn't even shake or bump) and just want to settle with insurance, but i don't have their info to do that with.

As of 12-31-06 it has been 2 days and i have not been contacted yet by either him or the police. I went back to the restaurant and the 300c wasn't there.

From the information given, I really don't think you have to worry about anything. Unless they filed a report with the police, they can't just accuse you of hitting there car and expect you to just pay them. If they wanted, they may try to sue you in civil court, but i don't really see how they could prove it. Since you can't contact them, and unless they know you, I don't see how they can contact you without involving the police, i think you should just forget about it until if/when someone calls. If you're still concerned, take the note you received to the local police, explain what happened, and see if they know anything about it.

The fact that they didn't leave a name or number and that they just didn't come into the restaurant and have a waiter make an announcement, makes me suspicious.

You know if you hit a car or not, even a minor bump is very obvious to the driver.

If the police contact your cousin (if the person who left the note calls the police) have them call you and explain. If you are 100% sure that you really didn't hit anything then I would ask if they have a witness, if there aren't any then don't accept responsibility. But considering they found your car accross the parking lot they may have.

I would say from your opening sentence you may feel you did hit something. On the other hand why did they leave a note if you were still there? So that means they will try to contact you through your License plate number, if its legitimate than you will be contacted or they will let it drop I think i would ask an attorney friend what i should do ?

If it was true that you hit their car they would leave their name and number. Just say you couldn't contact them and nothing you could do about it.

I was with some family and friends when on a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary and when we were driving away from a restaurant a person told us we backed into someone's car. We went into a store to find the "victim" but turns out it was already damaged from before.

Probably someone messing with your head. If you had really hit any-ones car, they would have called the police instead of leaving a note.

it sounds like a scam dont pay dont admit liability and tell them to see u in court,if you have no damage it is unlikely they have much either.you sound like an honest person if you hit someone you would have tried to put it right.they might be trying to cover up for their own mistake dont let them trick you into paying.

If there was a witness its their word against yours, but if they contacted the police, they would of nailed you by now especially if it was last night.

in my state, there are no driving rules in parking lots. all collisions are civil. so they would have to prove in civil court that it was your vehicle that hit theirs.
