we didn't do anything, we didn't break the law or anything and the cop just came up to us calling my friend a whore and told us to get the **** out of the parking lot.

I agree with Robert G.
More to what happen. Yes, we were drinking but when we got out of the club we were not breaking the law in anyway. It does seem logical that it was a bait to get us to argue back, I've seen it before. We did not get the cop's badge number and yes, i will file a complaint. Thank you. Just so you know, This happens in Minnesota. Watch out if you are ever in minnesota.

Man that was mean. No a police officer isn't suppose to. I mean you could report the officer but face it he's a police so most likely not much action is going to be taken place for something verbally said. That sucks though

Most cops think they are above the law themselves and think they can do/say anything. If you had a badge # or name of the officer, you can file a complaint, but if you dont have that info, you cant really do anything. But that officer maybe often found in that general area out side that bar so you might want to try to go back to that bar sometime and see if you can get his squad car # or name. Good luck

Professional? No. Legal? Yes.
In my experience, many people do not understand basic polite English. I am often forced to stoop to their street urchin level to get their attention and convey my message in a language they understand.
How old are you to ask if its illegal for police to swear? Come on!
Ahahahahha....Placed a Marshall under citizen's arrest? My ***! How can someone so seemingly articulate be such a pathological liar and borderline psychotic?

maybe unethical. But that story seems a little off. Even the most obnoxious of cops probably wouldn't do that. Are you sure there isn't something your leaving out?

Its harassment, just like it is for anyone else. You handle it just like you would with anyone else, call the police make a report. But I doubt you would do that, because I doubt you and your friends are completely innocent, why would anyone just start yelling at a stranger.

I wouldn't think it would be, because if you walked up to a police officer and called her or him a whore you would get a disorderly conduct ticket.

Show me a law that restricts ANYONE from swearing at you, it may go against the department policy, but it is not illegal

I don't think calling people names is illegal yet, but it shows lack of character.
If a cop wants to lower himself to name calling, then he should accept the fact that he is pretty lowlife himself.

Unfortunately, yes. It's called baiting. In many places, revenue shortage quotas cannot be met only by cracking down on traffic violations, so they find other ways to get people caught in the act of doing something illegal, so they can arrest you and/or cite you and get you to pay the fines that their continued paychecks require.
It is not at all unheard of for cops to repeately insult people until someone decides to retaliate in a potentially criminal way. Eva Gabor was incarcerated over this kind of thing many years ago.
The easiest place for badge-bearing bullies to bully people into committing those kinds of crimes is when people are on their way out of a club, when they might not be quite sober enough to realize that they're being baited.
The State of Utah, however, has passed a law that allows citizens to place such badge-bearing bullies under citizen's arrest, under a code titled 'criminal defamation' which includes anything anybody says in public.
I once placed a deputy US marshall under arrest for him telling someone to start taking medication (which only a licensed medical doctor is allowed to so opine) in public.
The victim of his crime wound up settling with the US governemnt out of court for his crime, so it never went to trial, but, I would have LOVED to have been on the witness stand to convict such a bully.
