I know everyone says that Christianity is all about the relationship with Jesus Christ and such, but if it is, then why the hell couldn't I hear him? I think when I finally figured out I was talking to myself and saying that it was Jesus' voice, I felt like everyone lied to me. =[
I was formerly a Christian, if that helps.

Yeah, I figured someone would come on here and tell me I wasn't listening. I was listening all my younger life for that voice, and the voice in the end that kept me calm, or happy, or in control, was my own.

I didn't know him? So reading the Bible and looking for a relationship with HIM was not knowing HIM? Yeah, I think I know HIM. He's a character in a moral guidance book that changed our world. I'm leaving.

Not all will see Jesus nor hear his voice audibly. There are many people out there who have never experienced the Lord as I have. It is for you to have even greater faith then people like me to believe without that kind of experience. If you ever turn back to the Lord your reward will be even greater then mine because you would have faith without seeing or hearing God, but you would just know (by faith that God is real). That takes more strength then others who do hear and have had a vision of Jesus.
I encourage you to continue with your struggle and follow the Word of God without that experience and I assure you that your reward will be great.
I know my brother that God is real and he is Jesus Christ for I have seen him in a vision or a dream. His power then touched me and I instantly knew he was real and Jesus Christ. This all happened to me when I was not a Christian.

Why is it that people who claim they're disappointed and disceived because they haven't had a "religious experience," that "Jesus doesn't speak to me," etc. expect that G-d or Jesus or whomever is going to tap them on the shoulder or knock on their front door? Since all the religious traditions with which I am familiar, which includes the Abrahamic religions primarily, agree that the divinity--use whatever name you wish--is incorporeal, incomparable and infinite (that greater than which nothing can be imagined to use Saint Anselm's thought), why do you think an encounter with the divine is going to be anything like a normal sense perception? As used in the Bible, the term "G-d spoke," or something similar involving a sensate experience, is clearly a metaphor--it's not meant to be taken literally. G-d's self-revelation is not a casual conversation with your next-door neighbor.
Also, it might help if you understood that there's a difference between being a Christian and simply going to church, although an awful lot of people do seem to confuse the two.
I'm not being sarcastic. Somewhere along the line you were given a very simplistic idea of religion, in general, and Christianity, in particular. Religion is not simple, and the people who tell you it is are doing you no service.
Grace be unto you and peace.

Unique, what you ask is a very difficult question that I don't think anyone can really answer in a soundbit setting like this. I will tell you this: I have been a Christian for about 20 years now. I have never heard God speak to me. However, I know what he wants because He told me through the Bible. I don't need to hear God speak to believe in Him and His promises. I'm sorry you feel that you need to.

I don't think Jesus said anything to anybody in over 2000 yrs. All these people saying, "The Lord spoke to me and said.."
Yeah right, I don't think so. If I am wrong, then God will let me know (somehow)

i was also formerly christian. of course everyone ( at least some) will tell you, you are not listening, but how do they know that? no one can answer that for you. you have to find it for yourself. i know the feeling of being lied to. at that point you have to understand that those people are also only repeating what they have been told. have they really been able to validate it for themselves?

you're not getting it. I don't really get it myself but I'll help as much as I can. I do think God and Jesus talk to us but maybe not really so much in the way we talk to each other. a cat might be confused that we never talk and don't care enough about them to talk to them but in reality we do talk to them but they can't understand us. to me God and Jesus are the little thing in my head that says "no, wait you know that is wrong" some people call that conscience. You just have to know how to understand him. I've never heard him audibly talk to me either but I still believe he's there. faith is the assurance of things hoped for the evidence of things unseen. yes I did just quote a scripture.I hope I've helped. you've gotta believe.

Perhaps Jesus is trying to contact you in a manner you did not originally anticipate. In other words, you might have been looking for Him in the wrong place/manner. Look again, only this time, try looking where you least expect to find Him.

I dont know why you didnt hear Him. He talks to me in different ways. Sometimes the answer just pops in my head. Sometimes the answer comes while reading and studying His word. Sometimes the answer comes by someone elses mouth. But He does talk to me. He is soo real to me, there is no way I can ever deny Him. He has worked miraculously in my life, things I know I couldnt have done on my own.
Not trying to sound ...... whatever the word is....... are you sure you were saved? Were you really His, because the bible says that Jesus will not lose any that the Father has given to Him.
There have been a few times in my life I found myself just wanting not to know anymore, but He didnt let me go. I am glad He didnt let me go.

And he wouldn't to even the most religious either. This is the Information Age, people are exposed to rationalism and are more resistant to mental manipulation. Why do you think there are less and less recorded awesome miracles when there are more and more people on earth? You gotta be really delusional to be able to be susceptible to illusions of miracles. Most of the so called miracles we are seeing nowadays are tricks and mind controls that some famous magicians are capable of.
