I have had neuropathy for about 2-1/2 months now. I am considering a body massage at our local spa thinking it may help my circulation and thereby helping the neuropathy. Has anyone tried this and did it help them at all.

The girl who does massages wants me to get a clearance from my doctor - that is reasonable but I can't see any downside to a body massage. I have had them in the past with no problem.

Anyone with neuropathy (feet/hands) ever lose their drivers licence due to the condition - or lose their ability to walk. I'm so worried about permanent disability.

Yes I have neuropathy in my feet all the way up to my hips. Was diagnosed with it several years ago. The reason why the lady will want a consent is so that your doctor is aware of what you are doing, and in case he might have specific instructions for the massage therapist. Diabetics have to be careful with this sort of thing, as well as manicures and pedicures. Because of the neuropathy, we don't feel things as others without it do.
I have had massage therapy for back pain and wound up helping the neuropathy. (Please note that I think anything that does not include pushing another pill down your throat is a wonderful thing!) I think that it would be a good thing for you to try. It could make you feel much better! Hope you have a safe New Year!

Unfortunately massage has never been shown to help with diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy develops due to chronic damage to nerve endings because of poor control of blood sugar. The best way to slow the progression of the disease is to control his blood sugars.
