The most important thing to share with someone who is just getting to know God is how they can be reconciled to Him. There are 4 basic steps, sometimes called the "Four-Fold Gospel". The passages of Scripture that demonstrate these steps are some of the most important verses of Scripture, since they sum up the Gospel message a simplistic manner that even someone with no theological background whatsoever can understand.

STEP 1: God's purpose is that we enjoy eternal life, peace, and fellowship with Him
Romans 5:1
John 3:16
Romans 6:23b

STEP 2: Sin has broken our fellowship with God
Romans 3:23
Romans 6:23
Isaiah 59:2

STEP 3: God has provided a means for that fellowship to be restored once again--through Jesus Christ
Romans 5:8
Acts 4:12
1 Timothy 2:5
John 5:24

(I would note that it is only by God's provision of Grace that we can be saved--NOT by any works we may do - Ephesians 2: 8, 9)

STEP 4: Accepting Christ as Lord and Savior gives us reconciliation with God. Christ now serves as our Mediator and High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16)
Acts 10:43
John 14:1
John 1:12

You might also want to show your friend that he can be assured of salvation when he receives Christ. The following passages are good ones to demonstrate this:
Romans 10:13
Romans 8:39
Romans 5:1
John 5: 12-13

Once we have received Christ, what do we do now if we fall into sin?

1 John 1: 7-9

What is God's wonderful promise to those He has adopted as "sons"?

Revelation 21: 3, 4

Why not start a study group instead of mixed verses? 100 different verses will not complete the entire message. Don't just read here and there, but read all throughout.

While it is fine for you to educate your friend in the Bible, you cannot make him believe any of it. Educate your friend, but allow him to decide for himself whether or not he believes it.

Any attempt at "forcing" him to belive often has the opposite effect. It could very well drive him further away from God, not closer to.
