I'm looking for a new or MINT, lightly used 2005 Fox vanilla 125 RLC fork (Internally adjustible to 80 100 or 125mm travel). I'd prefer the disc only version (no v brake bosses) but I would consider any type as long as it is new/near new with at least 8" of steer tube. I have a 2005 Fox TALAS 125 RLC availible for trade. Mint New/take-off.

Nothing yet. Thanks for all of the advice though. I'm checking bike manufacturers closeout pages for OEM forks too. thanks for the tip.

I used to have an '03 and an '04 vanilla . In '04 they changed the valving a tiny bit, but the biggest change was to the crown/stanchion design, they went to a stronger hollow forged design. I sold the van to upgrade to the TALAS to save weight and have on-the-fly adjustibility. I ended up having problems with the talas cartridge, and prefering the Van even with the extra weight. Also, I still have an assortment of spare springs for the '03/04 forks which according to fox, they won't fit the newer 130mm forks. The 125 RLC had 3 positions (125, 100, 80mm) I use the fork with a frame designed for 80mm. The new forks are only 100 or 130mm. The no brake boss thing is purely for looks. I don't know if they even exist in the RLC model. I have only ever seen OEM R models with no bosses. As for complexity vs the r-model, I use all of the features of the RLC, and can work on them myself pretty well. I mix and use my own Red Line brand synthetic shock oils, and service them myself.

I'm checking ebay, I have a saved search. Most of the 04 forks on ebay are pretty well used, and/or have the steer tubes cut too short. My biggest concern is worn stanchions from poor maintenance, which is why I'm holding out for an NOS or low mileage fork.

The newest 07/08 models come in 140mm only, and are not internally adjustable at all. I have seen a few for sale on ebay modified to 100mm travel, but they are NOT authorized by fox. Plus they switched to post mount brakes, which woume require new brakes or an adapter. I can't remember now if the 2005/2006 forks were 90/100/130, or just 100/130. If they can go to 90mm i would be interested in a 2005/2006 fork, but would still have to buy some heavier springs.

This places lists the 130: http://www.downtube.com/Fox_Vanilla_Fork_2005_Vanilla_RLC.html

Finding a new/newish one for '05 might be tough. You can check out the classifieds at these places and maybe come up with something:

www.mtbr.com

I didn't look, but www.greenfishsports.com almost always has some stellar fork deals on previous model years. Worth a visit. :o)

E-BAY!!!

Why fuss over the 5mm difference - all the 125 and 130 fox vanillas (rlc in your case) going back to 2002 have near identical internals and damping systems (all 2002-2004 van' 125s are identical, the same for all 130s), I believe the 130s use slightly different oil to the 125s. All year models are reduceable/increasable between 125/130, 100 and 80mm, I have some with the v-brake bosses - the mounting bolts can be removed and the remaining mounting helps with hose guidance.
I would also recommend you go for the vanilla r's as they will be cheaper and are easier to service; and you will be able to afford to get some different rate springs instead for different types of riding - whats the point of having a shock if you gonna lock it out? - changing springs in fox vanillas is a 2minute job.

I think that from 2005 Fox only sold the Vanilla in the 130/100 configuration.
