There are those who are skeptics - of course, we humans don't understand just how the human mind dreams.

Others emphasize that dreams are an important spiritual event - perhaps one of the most important possible.

What do you think?

This is my take on the subject of dream interpretation. I never studied it, so this is pure opinion.

I think that dream interpretation can be helpful, but most dreams are over analyzed. For example, some people might say that sitting in a chair in your dream symbolized this, using a computer without a mouse symbolizes that, etc. To me, sitting in a chair means you felt like sitting in a chair, and the computer without a mouse is a computer without a mouse. I think this because my dreams are so random sometimes, they can't possibly mean anything. I mean, flying bunnies? What can THAT symbolize?

I don't think that people should just discard all dreams as nonsense though. I've had dreams that did (and still do) give me chills as I think about them because they meant something. These dreams are more rare, but important. One dream I had this week confirmed my fear of having to start all over again, probably because I've moved quite a bit. The emotions I felt in the dream were very intense, and I think that certain parts of the dream meant something, like when I kept forgetting items and would randomly burst out crying.

So yes, I think that dreams can reflect your internal conflicts and desires. However, most of the time (at least for me) they are random collections of thoughts that organize themselves into loose stories.

While I think that some folks can take it a little too seriously, I find dreams to be a valuable source of guidance and information. Not all dreams "mean" something, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but in dreams we can sort out many things that we are too distracted to work on during the day, and if there is an issue you don't wish to face, it's much easier to push it away during the day, but in dreams, it's there, like it or not, and it's trying to get your attention.... Sometimes dreams are very spiritual, and I have had, and done some very profound healing in the dream state...

Yes, they all mean something. Usually nothing of great importance, but at times, when our defenses are down during sleep, our dreams will bring something up that we would keep repressed when awake.

I never think of dreams as a spiritual event, simply because they don't all have a spiritual meaning. I have worked through many traumas by dreaming, and sometimes having a nightmare when it becomes very real. But spiritual, hardly!

i think we all have dreams for a reason... we're just not smart enough to figure out what the dreams have mapped out in our lives... then again, dreams are also just thoughts that you have in your mind. like if you see a movie about snakes, then you might have a dream about snakes.. dreams can happen cuz of so many different purposes... its complex

I don't think you should take your dreams too seriously. I think you should take your real life seriously though.
