Sheer curiosity. Do you think someone would make it within their 20 years? that would mean 6 enlisted 14 officer-enlisted.

So, if people can move up to officer positions, why do so many spend their entire military careers as enlisted soldiers?

O1 to O2 is 12-24 months. O2-O3 is also 24 months. O3 is a minimum of 5 years. Think the Army average is 12-18 mos. to make O2.

the E has nothing to do with promotion rate, only payrate.

DH is In Zone for O4 this year..at the 12.5 year mark.

BTW..after O3, the E is not used.

as for making O4 and being able to retire: mostly depends on your ability to pass the board. O1-O3 are automatic promotions, O4 you actually have to prove you know what you are doing.

to make O2: pulse required
To make O3: consciousness required.
to make O4: Intelligence required.

ETA: becuase some choose not to get the degree required, or are happier being hands on and not managers. No shame in staying enlisted whatsoever. hell..lots of senior enlisted have doctorates...

First you DON'T just move up. You have to earn a commission by completeing a four year college degree or get picked up for a commissioning program that will send you to college or a couple of other ways.

There is no such thing as an OE-1 or OE-4, try O-1E or O-4E.

It is usually about 3 to 4 years between officer advancements IF you get the evaluations you need recommending advancement.

Still would need the same Courses, Educational requirements as a ROTC/USMA Officer. But I dont see why you couldnt.

A former E6 from my Old Battalion retired as a O-7 after 28 years Commissioned service.

You should be abl to get to O-4 (Maj) at about the 14-16 year mark, allowing for needs of the service, and assuming you made all your professional development and command requirements on time.

There is no O-4E they drop the E when you become field Grade.

you can go from O-1E to O-4 in 8 to 12 years depending on promotion rates at the time.
