This sounds really stupid, but I don't know and I have a job interview tomorrow. They want me to bring proof that I can legally work in the US. I'm over the age of 18, so what do they need?

Typically, employers will want to see a combination of documents to prove your proof of citizenship and/or ability to work in the United States.

These documents will include a driver's license, social security card, birth certificate, or naturalization papers. A passport should do the job as well.

If you are not a US citizen, you will need your need your work visa.

Good luck on your interview!

I was in the same soup not too long ago and I never gave up. I just got hired a month ago after 10 years of being a stay at home mom.Do not dwell too much on the lag, just be optimistic and pray, you'll surely get hired.

Think about your field of interest, your skills, things you're good at and then write a great resume.
If you volunteered at your kids' school or any
where, use it on your resume. That's how I filled my lag.

This is what worked for me: I fasted and prayed to God and asked for blessings and directions. I adopted an optimistic attitude. I did a lot of research on how to sharpen my employability skills and amped up my resume. I networked and connected with people, then I submitted applications in my field of interest. I got some callbacks and interviews and even turned down some offers. It's been a month now since I got hired. Anything is possible if you believe. Will be praying for you.

You need to be a citizen or legal resident. Bring something official, such as a driver's license or state issued picture ID. That is step one.

Then you need something to prove Social Security number--such as your SS card OR a birth certificate. They should be running that through the database to verify that number goes with your name (LOTS of identity theft out there courtesy of illegals).

OR if you have a US passport or other passport with work authorization, that alone will suffice. It's the famous I9 form from over 20 years ago which Congress promised us would END illegal immigrant's being employed in the US.

A social security card and driver's license would do it. If they want anything more, they'll tell you.
