I went to church with my wife today. I Iistened intently to the sermon, and I kept finding myself pondering "How can adults believe this stuff"?

I realize there is no god, but I keep quiet about it. It's amazing all the nonsense that church people accept.

Which believers?

Today, I was the preacher, as I seem to be on most Sunday mornings. (very early Sunday morning) My "inspirational thoughts" were that you can't experience change if you have your heels dug into where you are right now. You need to be open to change for change to happen.

Too many people follow the old adage "Better the Devil you know than the Devil you don't". Use whatever tools of discernment you have, and discover what it is that the universe has in store for you, and embrace that path; likely, it will be worth it.

I didn't make it to church today but I watched Dr. David Jeremiah who taught on the virtue of performing work with excellence to God's glory. He read from Ephesians 6 which instructs slaves to obey their masters. He acknowledged that slavery is unjust and while we have thankfully abolished it, Paul's overall message was to complete the work that is due your boss and for the boss to pay what is due the workers in return. He also refuted some clergy who live/preach as if being in traditional ministry is the only godly occupation. He said we are all called by God to do the work that we do and when we do it with joy and enthusiasm we are pleasing unto God. It was a great message!

The sermon I listed to was on the book of Daniel. The preacher said that he knew of 3 types of Christians that went to church. The largest group was the compromising Christians who would go along with the world if it meant not having to face persecution or ridicule in their daily lives. He said that was what the majority of Jewish people in Babylon were.

He said that the next group which was much smaller was represented by Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednago who were willing to take a stand for their faith if some other Christian would take a stand first.

The last even smaller group were people like Daniel who would stand alone if they had to when it came to not compromising their beliefs no matter what pressure came their way.

We didn't have a preacher today. Because its the end of the year, we all got paper and pens and were asked to write down all the things we are thankful for, and then write what went wrong. Then we told each other what we did and prayed for each other.

How we can improve our skills as teachers and help others to understand the Bible and grow in appreciation of God and His son Jesus.
The example Jesus set for us as a Great Teacher, using illustrations and asking questions to help his disciples to get the sense of what he was teaching them.
The need to be patient as individuals start to learn, and help them as they start to make the changes they may need to in order to bring their lives into harmony with Bible principles.
How even Jesus half brother James for a time held back from becoming a disciple, yet after Jesus death he was used extensively in the Christian congregation.
Hence just because some may take longer than others to grow spiritually, we should not give up encouraging them.

We studied 1Peter 3:10-22 - I wouldn't say it was "inspiring"...but the word of God is always powerful!

Had a very touching message this morning- based on when Joshua crossed the Jordon on dry ground , just before they reached the promise land-because the ark of the covenant was there- (the presence of the Lord)- and then God told them to place memorial stones there to remind them of what God did- and then at the conclusion of his message, each of had a rock, and wrote on it something that God has done to show Himself faithful in our lives- and then took them to the altar- and we are going to have them put in a glass case, as a reminder of God's faithfulness to us- great day!!!!

Living an authentic life - not hidden by masks, but showing the world who you really are in Christ.

Do not store up your treasure on earth where moth and rust will destory it. Store up your treasures in heaven. This earth is passing away, only the things that are done in the name of Jesus will last.

I need to remember this. I spend more time thinking about my next vacation than the things of God lately.
