The percentage is so low that it is not worth mentioning. Most want to come here and form their own 'communities' of like minded people from their homeland.
They are not 'assimilating' to anything. They are merely coming here to escape the mess their people have made back in their home country.
Most never want to learn the English language.....they just want to be here to reap the benefits we as Americans pay for and enjoy as taxpayers.
Personally, I am tired of supporting it.

some will assimulate, many will refuse to assimulate and the rest cover in the shadows.... or so we are advised. Deporting ALL illegals could eliminate the various forces working against different cultures. information, respecting and appreciation of different's cultures is a 2 way highway!

I would say nearly none. Culture is important, so I feel assimilation may not always be the right thing either. More like integrating, as our anscestors did. Look at the major cities...Chicago, NY, LA... etc. They are so much more culturally interesting. Not to mention the food is better...LOL. I do feel though, if someone moves here, they would WANT to become part of the society. I loooove Italy, and if I had wanted to move there, I would of course follow their rules, learn their language, and appreciate and learn their ways of doing things. When I visited, I did the same thing (although there was a lot of cherades, and mixed Italian and english). All laughed, but they appreciated the effort.
Then when I came home, I was richer for it.

What culture are you talking about? Sitting in front of TV, eating fatburgers while getting dumber and fatter by the minute? I'd rather keep dancing naked around a bonfire if that was part of my culture.

The way I am reading your question, it sounds like: what percentage of immigrants (legal and illegal) to the US would you say are in agreement that American culture is better than their own?
The answer is zero. American culture is not superior to any other culture. There are certain cultural elements, like language, that immigrants adopt, but on the whole I would say it takes about 5 generations before someone can cast off all ties to their homeland.

I would say the issue is not with immigrants wanting to assimilate - sometimes the issue is with the majority not tolerating their differences and attempts to assimilate.

Resistance is futile...
Hell even 6th generation Polish, Dutch and German, Italian and what have you 'immigrants' still haven't assimilated. And to what? Texans? Floridians? New Yorkers? Mountain men?
Love the diversity of it all. Prosperos annos :)
