In Texas this program is called English as a SECOND LANGUAGE, ummm....last I checked I was in the UNITED STATES and NOT MEXICO....so WHY is my son's elementary school and the middle and high schools using tax payer money to teach ENGLISH to people whose primary language is SPANISH? IF I went to MEXICO are they going to pay for my kids to learn their language?

Alexandra, I understand that, but we have so little money put toward public education around here, shouldn't our own kids be the first priority?

If they were legal they would be helping support the schools and have no problem with that. But the illegals do not pay into the school system and we have to educate their children. Our children pay the price by having programs cut because of this.

I agree. However it is much easier learned in grade school and its going to be around no matter how we the people feel about it.I think it is wrong but at least all students get the benifit of it,or we will not be able to talk in our own country for so many not speaking english.I personally think the burden should be on the illegals to learn our language or stay out.But I am so alone with this so bow to the masses.

I worked in social centers for over 15 years and there are an mind-blowing style of places including libraries, that furnish ESL instructions(loose). yet another stable itemizing is the United way. additionally, lots of immigrants from Mexico, South and critical usa are smarter than you think of. they have english language skills yet do no longer make the main of as a results of fact they get first hand spanish speaking american workers to help them out. I particularly have pushed many to learn the arrogance to communicate it greater normally and thats all the undertaking is-lack of self belief. those spanish speaking american workers (government) are not doing complaining individuals a want by utilizing servicing immigrants in spanish. The question is: why did the government initiate making it trouble-free for spanish speaking in basic terms immigrants to hire american centers and spend tax payer money to make revealed fabric in spanish? BTW, i'm of Mexican descent, born and raised in Texas. My mom exchange right into a spanish speaking immigrant that got here to Texas interior the 50's and compelled herself to be taught the yank way which included the english language and became a citizen. She wasn't given the crimson carpet scientific care; so i won't relate to those that do get it and proceed to stay in the lifeless of night. No sympathy right here, sister.

Wait, I don't get it. Do you want immigrants to learn English or do you not? People here are always complaining about how immigrants keep speaking Spanish and the recorded message on the phones ask you to press one for English.
Either schools teach them English or they keep speaking only Spanish. Make up your mind.

Damn. Stingy much?
Public education has contributed more to this nation's growth, vitality, and productivity than anything else. Period.
Without educating the public to the best of our ability and their capacity we are throwing away our future.
It's not about a free handout to immigrants. It's about building a society where we can all be prosperous.
Quit your hating.

just to let you know in other parts of the world, it's usually mandatory to learn 3 or 4 languages in school.
they teach english to spanish immigrants because it will hopefully make them more productive.
and spanish to american english speaking children beause it will help them in the future. businesses don't care who their clients are who give them money. if they can only speak spanish, they will hire employees who can communicate with them to get their business. it makes you more competitive in the job market.
