We have the word dozen for 12, although we have no name for 11 or 13.

Do we have a dozen eggs because of all the 12's in the Scriptures, Are there more 12's I'm missing? Does 12 have a spiritual meaning?

"How about 23?", asks Jim Carry

At the urging of a friend I'll add these remarks...

Twelve is the product of 3 (the perfectly Divine and heavenly number) and 4 (the earthly, the number of what is material and organic).

While seven is composed of 3 added to 4, twelve is 3 multiplied by 4, and hence denotes that which can scarcely be explained in words, but which the spiritual perception can at once appreciate, viz., organization, the products denoting production and multiplication and increase of all that is contained in the two numbers separately. The 4 is generally prominently seen in the twelve.

THERE WERE TWELVE PATRIARCHS

from Seth to Noah and his family, and twelve from Shem to Jacob.

THE TWELVE SONS OF ISRAEL

though actually thirteen in number, there are never more than twelve names in any one list.

I see a pattern developing, and I am not big on coincidences.

I found this web site on the subject, but I can't say if it is trustworthy...

Genesis 17:20 speaks of Ishael having twelve princes, and in Numbers 1:5-16 there are twelve princes named over the twelve tribes of Israel. Additionally, there are twelve stones in the High Priests' breastplate, twelve cakes of showbread to be placed in the Holy Place of the temple. The twelve spies of Numbers 13. Elijah built an altar of twelve stones, I Kings 17:30-40. And of course, the twelve disciples. Jesus said that, at His request, the Father would send twelve legions of angels. Because Yahweh of the Hebrews raised up a nation threw Jacob. He then was going to be a special people to them giving them goods and having them civilized. The Hebrews were the most civilized and cleanest people 3,500 years ago. They symbolized the 12 signs of the Zodiac. When The Israelites worshiped the golden calf that represented Tarsus. When Aaron blew the Rams horn it represented Ares. When Judah became a great tribe it symbolized Leo. All ways the Hebrews kept time the Mazzaroth.

Numerology is any belief in divine, mystical or other special relationship between a number and some coinciding events. It's an occult science that I consider fascinating. I started to study numerology because of my obsession with Mathematics, Geometry. What I discovered it's really incredibble.

We humans also seem to appreciate the number 3 as well as the number 7.

For Douglas Adams it was 42.

But 12 is neat though. I believe that the biblical reference to 12 may be associated with the hebrew glyph of יב which may have a secondary meaning as well, probably of mystical significance. You might want to reference the movie π. It talks about this a little.

Because its purely astrological.

It defines the 12 months of the year.

The personified 12 processions of the constellation as the earth's access wobbles each eon.

It is a form of measurement to make a predictable calender for the seasons.

Thus, the significance of 12 surrounding the SUN, not the son.

We took an idea of a man that never existed and anthropomorphised the Sun into the son.

We humans like to do that, to personify objects so that we can memorize patterns as a form of measurement.

Unfortunately, there are fools to this day that take it literally.

Disciples... no idea, nice even number?

What's 12 hours & mo?... oh, months?

I seem to recall Sumerians used a 6 base numbering system. Like we use 10 base, and binary is 2 base... they were the first measurers of things, and that knowlege spread west.

If you look at times, you'll notice it's 6 that's important. 60 seconds to a minute, 60 minutes to a hour, 4 times 6 hours to a day 30 days (5 times 6) to a month (originally).... and so on.

Also used in other stuff 360 degrees to a circle... like I said, they liked to measure stuff, and we inherited the number system.

So you could say the number is pretty much culturally important :)
