My brothers six month old kitten is coming over to stay with my parents and I for the week. We never had a cat or any pets before. We have taken care of animals, but it was at those peoples houses. Any advice??

Your brother will tell you what it likes to eat and probably bring its bed/blanket,food and toys. You need to provide a safe warm and quiet environment. It will be nervous in your house initially.Lots of cuddles, playing and reassurance will help.
It wont like loud music or lots of people crowding it.Cats are nocturnal and a six month kitten spends a lot of time sleeping during the day.It may prefer to `explore` when everyone else is asleep and not supervising.A room without ornaments, table lamps, photographs, etc would be good for nighttime.Try putting its bed and food in a bathroom(after removing anything it could hurt itself with) and closing door.
If you are not used to pets in the house, dont open any door suddenly as you will crush it if it is listening to your approach right behind the door.
Move anything it can knock over or fall onto.Wrap up any furniture you dont want to be scratched.
Provide clean toilet area and fresh water.

Don't change the food or it'll get diarhea, have him bring over all the food needed.

DON'T STEP on the kitten, it'll be underfoot. You have to watch your feet.

Be patient with the cat, it'll be unsure of what's going on.

Show it the litter box at least twice so it knows where it in in the 'new place'.

Put away any breakables, if he's only 6 months old he'll be up on top of things and knocking things over.

Put away ANY mouse poison.

As long as it's just for a week, try to set aside one room just for the cat, with its food and litterbox. Make sure it has a window to look at, some toys, and a few nice places to hide. It'll probably be less stressful. Definitely go in and visit the kitty and play with it as much as you can -- or just sit and keep it company -- but some cats are very nervous in strange places.
